Packers Defense - 2024

Really happy to see Gary used differently yesterday. Shows he can be a stud in this defense. Just gotta get creative with him.
really nice to see rush group innovation, does no good to have great athletes if all you do is rush them from same spot time after time, it makes preparation of opponents easy, moving Gary and others around forces OC's to create more blocking adjustments at the LOS and scheme to pick up the 5th rusher.
this is so necessary, our coverage ability is suspect, and the best way to protect it is with pass rush, forcing the QB to reset.
each week we see new wrinkles from Hafley's defense, this I think is what we all hoped for

After struggling early in the season with pressure I wanted him to adjust and start doing this. I didnt expect him to actually execute it. I have wanted to do what Spags and Flores do on defense for so long. Its high risk high reward for sure but its so confusing for QBs.
Cancelled by the forum elites.
OL has to honor the guys who may blitz. Unlike when we'd just drop those guys in coverage. That half step gives Clark all he needs to attack the man whose late to the party on the double teams and keeps QBs from stepping up. That makes what's coming off the edge more dangerous.
Hear, hear!
One of the reasons I was a huge proponent of the Gary draft pick was because with his athletic profile and skill-set, I envisioned him being a player that could be used as more than just a conventional EDGE rusher. I mean the guy is an athletic freak, there is so much you can do with his talents if you just use a little bit of creativity.
It's been disappointing not to see that happen at all; neither of the past two DCs had the brain cells for it. They all talk about "use players to their strengths" but then never actually do it.
It's very heartening to see Hafley doing that, not only with Gary, but also figuring out ways to put guys like Cooper to use even if he's not quite ready to be a full-time guy.

I felt something in our game yesterday that I have not felt in a long time. Those two times we punted in Q4, I actually felt... good, about our D taking the field. They were ballin', making life miserable for Houston.
Obviously, it was disappointing to see the offense sputter out and not get points, but then I just looked forward to continuing to dominate them on the other side of the ball. And, for the most part, the D held, and the O/ST held up their end on the last drive.
I'm very happy with the job our new DC is doing thus far.

This game was the best the D has played in a very long time, maybe a little soft on run stoppage but hey holding Stroud under 100 is very impressive. No turnovers either. On another note it looked like Quay had a “fencing response” concussion. I wonder if he gives way to Wilson for quite some time.

Don't be naive, the D looked good because the Texans were missing key players on offense. Where's our Wayne Simmons type tough guy any way?lake shark wrote: ↑21 Oct 2024 21:22This game was the best the D has played in a very long time, maybe a little soft on run stoppage but hey holding Stroud under 100 is very impressive. Their offense put 41 on the Patriots the previous week with the same players out. Our defense held them to a WHOPPING 55 total yards passing! That has happened 5 other times since 1990. https://stathead.com/tiny/44W8NRingoCStarrQB wrote: ↑21 Oct 2024 21:31Don't be naive, the D looked good because the Texans were missing key players on offense. Don't give us this nonsense that it was only because the Texans were missing key players. Other than the 2nd quarter run defense that struggled to adapt after Quay went out, they rocked it.

It wasn't until after the 2011 season that I realized that most defensive coordinators are idiots. I'll never forget Rodgers tearing up defenses around the league throughout 2011 on a scale that nobody had ever seen. Suddenly in 2012 defenses were able to contain us. I remember being dumbfounded. What type of genius move could have neutralized this high powered offense so effectively? Turns out teams just started playing both of their safeties back in coverage instead of only 1. Like, what?? It took these DC's around the league an entire season to figure that out? And that's all it took to slow us down? That's when I knew that most of these guys must be a beer short of a six pack.

Keep guessing how to accurately assess the situation.Pckfn23 wrote: ↑21 Oct 2024 21:43Their offense put 41 on the Patriots the previous week with the same players out. Rodgers tore it up again in 2012, He lost Jennings most of the year and Nelson for almost half (his 2 best field stretchers) and still threw for over 4,200 yrdsPapa John wrote: ↑22 Oct 2024 09:17It wasn't until after the 2011 season that I realized that most defensive coordinators are idiots. losing Collins, would be like taking McKinney out of this defense, there are key positions/players that when lost simply are not replaceable, obviously a player like Collins, and the position of free safety are that, so blaming DC's for not being able to fix that hole does not equate to lousy coaching.
and lack of talent on defense has been a achilles heel of it since the last ice age every year it seems we lack pass rush, or coverage, or both, can't blame that on coaching

At the start of the year, Nixon was our starting nickel and Bullard was the starting Safety beside X man
But now the Packers are using Nixon (mostly) outside and have Bullard dialed into the slot/coverage role. He's really cannibalizing snaps from the CB room while Evan Williams takes over the Safety duties. Quite a transformation in only a few weeks with the new defense
Snap counts below - you'll see the other CBs didn't get many snaps last week and that's been the recent trend.
Stokes, Valentine and Ballantine were all active...only 10 snaps between them
