Why would Love want to be a Packer if they keep Rodgers? Almost every player wants to start, and if they do not no team should want them.
The only reason would be if he feels he's not ready to start, and is getting such great coaching that he's in no hurry to leave to make his perhaps only push at a starting job.
If we were to restructure Rodgers to where he is with us for another 4+ years almost guaranteed. There really would be almost no point to having an asset like Love (first rounder) stuffed away on the bench. At that point, he should be dealt and someone like Benk or TBLS or another late round pick QB should serve as number 2. If Rodgers does come back and is extended, I would guess the only reason Love would not be dealt...is because he has no trade value so might as well have a decent backup on the roster. Other than that, I think you gotta try to recoup the losses of a first round pick that will hopefully never see the field.
Only if you have injuries turned "off".

If you have injuries turned "on", you may keep a relative cheap backup to have a relatively cheap backup.

Also, it's possible there are no exciting trade offers for Love.

But we have no idea whatsoever what Hackett or even LaFleur and Gutey think about Love and his development behind the scenes.
I saw the look of terror in Lafleurs eyes when Rodgers was threatening to not come back. His lack of effort to conjure up a poker face told the story to me of his thoughts on Loves development. Things could have changed, but I know where things stood 4 months ago!

This is why this week's game against the Lions is going to be one of the most interesting of the season. Sure, the hunt for the #1 seed was kind of interesting but we all knew we had a playoff spot locked up weeks ago.

But this week, once Rodgers comes out, will be a rare opportunity to see what the future of the Packers off season may look like.

thats my thinking, Love will have to avoid the deer in the headlights impression he displayed against KC, if not I don't see a team giving us return value on our investment, so why not keep him another year, he's a cheap backup that could finish a game if need be, and he needs to prove worthy for a GM to be willing to part with a 1st in a trade with us..

I don't see that happening, can't protect Love at the expense of your meal ticket to a SB appearance, I think a half is all we'll see from Rodgers, I'am looking forward to seeing if Love got rid of the butterflys back at KC, I expect Lafluer is to, this is a big oppertunity for Love to show us that he's ready if Rodgers is gone after this year, or at least show improvement handling pass rush, I'am hoping he does well.

In Green Bay Press Gazette they say if Rodgers gets injured against the Lions it will go down as one of the worst decisions in NFL history. It'll certainly be up there.

What if he didn't fall on his face? IMO, he did not. The Packers lost that game because ST's directly cost them 9 points and left the O to start inside their own 10 yard line 3 times. 2 missed field goals and a muffed punt cost the Packers 9 points. Going up against the D that has been great since that game and Newman being a turnstyle and exactly 0 practice reps with Adams put Love in a hopeless situation.

Love wasn't perfect, but what do you expect from 2 preseason games in which he did not play with any of the starting receivers? With a free runner in his face on almost every play? Starting inside his own 10 yard line. And ST's being beyond horrible.

Yeah, that KC was a total team disaster. Not that unlike the Fields first game against the Browns. A total team failure and the worst position to put in your young QB for his first start.

That’s a fine position to take, all good. Personally, I hope love plays a lot Sunday and I hope he looks great. But ask yourself this in terms of whether Lafleur is excited to play him or not Sunday (who know he may be, this is hypothetical). Did Love help or hurt his value in the KC game and what would a similar game against the lions do to A) his trade value B) the teams leverage in regards to the Rodgers situation.

I think he hurt his trade value and made the team need to figure out a way to keep Rodgers at almost all cost against the Chiefs. Lafleur May be nervous for those same impressions to be reinforced against the Lions. Maybe.

Defense played really well. Love sucked.

Yeah, defense did well. Offense and special teams sucked. Of course Love looked shaky in his first start with an NFL pass rush in his face every other play. Get ready for seeing lots more ropey QB play from Love or whoever else takes over from Rodgers. Packer fans have been spoiled for 30 years. The odds are high that you're going to be watching plenty of bad quarterbacking.

This Twitter stuff is fantastic. Even Clay Matthews and Erik Bahktiari are in on the fun. Love to see these guys give it to the media. Hate the anonymous sources and other crap that gets reported.

McAfee and AJ will have a field day with this on Tuesday! Can't wait.
