All players will suit up for the KC game on Thursday.

I doubt Aaron plays, but I like that LaFleur is at least having everyone suit up so they start getting that Gameday feel.

I honestly am worried about coming out flat against Minnie. I want that week 1 Dub.

I like this too. TBH, I would like it a lot if Love get a series or so with most of the other regulars.

The Packers are trying out kickers and a punter.

I kinda want a punter named Dicker.

OMG, are you telling me that Toure hasn't even been lining up as a gunner?? After all that? Or I guess this is just the first unit in each game.

On a more serious, well-balanced note... look at this.
On the perimeter, cornerbacks Keisean Nixon and Gafford were subbed out as gunners for Rodgers and Jean-Charles. The gunner position is one that is highly rotated and should involve starting cornerbacks Eric Stokes and Rasul Douglas, who have been held out of preseason games, when the regular season begins. Stokes and Douglas have seen snaps there with the first-team punt team in practice this summer.
This is interesting. I had read that Stokes and Rasul lined up there, but I thought it was a one-time sort of isolated event, like when Aaron ones was doing returns--sort of a "just in case" kind of deal. But they say in practices it was been a regular thing.

Any thoughts around the board on premiere starters as gunners on special teams? I'm cool with it, but I know this sort of thing is often controversial.

I agree. You don't want starters running full speed for 50 yards 6 to possibly 10 or more times per game in addition to their offensive or defensive snaps. That is how injuries, particularly muscle strains and ACL tears, happen.

My preference is to see CBs line up at the gunner spot. They have the speed and tackling fundamentals already ingrained in them. I think Jaire and Rasul have the perfect mindset and would be perfect candidates for it but I also understand the wear and tear factor when exposing these players to additional ST snaps. I have no problem seeing guys like Jean-Charles or Nixon getting work there.

As an aside, I'd love to see Rasul and/or Jaire lined up as vice (opposite the gunner on punt return team) as I think their feisty nature would translate well in delaying gunners from getting up field in coverage.

Any thoughts whether Rasul's turn at FS today really means anything? Lots of injuries at the safety position of late.

But he was in with the starting unit so...??

I just wonder if they are maybe hoping they could rely on him as top backup safety should something happen to Savage or Amos.

I think injuries and the lack of people really standing out and grabbing those spots is the big reason. Everyone has been talking up Rasul big time and say he can play any position in the defensive backfield. Seemed like only a matter of time before he would get looks there. Guys like Jean-Charles and Nixon may be flashing more as a nickel CB than others at #3 safety. So why not? Should be fun to see who lands where and how much they move Rasul around.

McCarthy still plays a lot of starters during the Cowboys preseason games im pretty sure. That one kid ran what two returns back the other game?? And we all know he will be starting at that spot. Any coach should have seen he was capable of doing the job after the first return and pulled him. I like Lafleurs approach.

I'd rather have Douglas be the #3 Safety compared to anyone else we have at safety. Maybe Sean Davis would be okay but I have zero faith in anyone else right now.

I love the move.
