Im surprised there hasnt been any kevin King news. If he ends up getting 0 interest i wonder if the packers would want him back for say under 4m for 1 year or something.
I would bring him back for cheap. He wasnt great, but better than anyone else we have on the roster...by far.
The second best corner on the team retired last week.
You don’t bring back a player after he ruined the chances of a SB for the entire team.
The only reason I could think of is just to get the opportunity to cut him personally. I’d be OK with that.
What seems clear from the social media responses is that the players seem to really like Kevin King. Not sure if we're back with 'Packer People' but King and Jones both appear to be super popular in the locker room.

Geno Atkins is the guy I'd like to see in GB, pairing him with Clark would give the Packers 2 top- end DLs. Had the shoulder injury last year, but he should be fully recovered and well rested . DC Barry surely knows the value of a penetrating 3-Tech after watching Donald do it for years
Atkins has gotta be tired of all the losing in Cincy, maybe he'd like to be on a contender for a couple of seasons. He would have to adopt a new jersey number though, 97 is already taken. Great player, who turns 33 on Sunday...what better gift than becoming a Green Bay Packer ?
And he's a 5 star high class human being.

from Mike Lombardi at The Athletic
Three moves I hated
1. Adoree’ Jackson signing with the Giants. I loved Jackson coming out of USC. His speed and his ball skills made him a corner who could turn defense into offense. However, in the last two seasons, he has played in only 14 games, making few plays on the ball and lacking the return skills he displayed in college. I would love the Giants’ signing if they paid a modest salary, betting on Jackson returning to the game with a passion and more durability. But the Giants paid him as if he were a big-time starter, with guaranteed money for doing very little over the last two seasons. Who were the teams that the Giants were competing against for acquiring Jackson? The Titans know Jackson well, they desperately need coverage corners, and they walked away from the contract. What does that say?

DT Gerald McCoy is looking for a 2021 home,a return to Dallas is a possibility - but he and Jerry had some friction last year
McCoy also mentioned a return too the Bucs, but with Suh signing in TB- not sure they have $$ room for him there
"I’m in the winning phase, McCoy said. Not looking for a huge contract, I'm looking for the best situation where I can experience winning before I'm done. So for my free agent pick, or whoever picks me, the goal is for it to be mutual they are in a win-now situation."
McCoy had his 2020 contract voided with the Cowboys after a season-ending quad injury. He’s healthy at seven months removed from surgery but could struggle for guaranteed money coming off a lost season."

Right now the Packers are at about $2.75 million to the cap for the good.
But that is not including Mercedes Lewis. Which means as it stands, we are going to have to do some cap maneuvering as it is. And that is before bringing in another FA.

Would love to get a real upgrade at DL before the draft. There are some guys available. There are guys still on the roster who don’t need to be that can clear space for another addition, the obvious ones are Dean Lowry (save 3.3million as we incur a sizable dead cap hit of 3m), josh Jackson (save 1.3million), Oren burks (save about 950k), EQ (save 850k)
By the way is dean lowry the most overpaid journeymen in football history?

Can you be called a journeyman if you have only played for one team?
I agree there are a lot of Dlinemen that I would love to have.

Nah that was bad word for the circumstance. I just meant basically I can’t believe we are on the hook for over 6million dollars for a guy of his production.
And as of today, we plan to pay it

I remember when all of us were like, "oooohhhhh......."when we saw the contract that he signed
Unfortunately for us, Lowry peaked in 2018 when we expected continued ascension. It's sort of like David Bak's 2016 contract. We were all like....."oooohhhh" except David did continue to ascend and his looked like a bargain.

whaaaa? a player doesn't have to travel to be called a journeymen, Journeymen simply means seasoned, or experienced, or that he has played in several different schemes, in Lowery's case this will be his 3rd DC, as to over paid, lots of DL are over payed, it's the nature of the position, if a guy is a rotator he'll get some bucks.

M. Adams apparently got somewhere between 1 and 2.5 million from the Patriots. I guess that proves your point.

Yeah whether journeyman was the proper term or not, my larger point is that we owe lowry over 6 million this year and we can save over 3 million in cap if we cut him and that money can be used to find someone far better than him.
I am disappointed we haven’t done this and he is still on team or hasn’t taken a pay cut like team player P Smith.

In other news, journeyman Aaron Rodgers still has not had his contract restructured.

Sorry. Journeymen.

Suminabitch, isn’t a journey or traveling component to it.

I actually think a guy like Dean Lowry may actually set up well in the more Fangio/Barry style defense.
I think we will see a better season from him.

A couple of "bargain" FAs from
Sharp Football
https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/a ... zie-poole/
here's a couple they identified, more in the article
"The NFL has clearly devalued the off-ball linebacker position of late, similarly to how running backs have been treated. For my taste, unless you are able to secure a once-in-a-generation type of player like Luke Keuchly, Bobby Wagner, or Ray Lewis, the best bet is to find your athletic linebackers who can cover tight ends and running backs out of the backfield.
With that being said, an athletic defender who stands out for dirt cheap is
Kevin Pierre-Louis. Louis is 29 years old and has ranked second and fifth in PFF coverage grade among LBs the last two seasons. In addition, Louis is uber-athletic and produced a SPARQ score in the 98th percentile at the 2014 combine."
"Last season we saw a couple of veterans produce excellent returns on relatively low deals like
Ronald Darby (one-year/$3M) and Xavier Rhodes (one-year/$3M). Speaking of Darby, he returns as a potential excellent value this season as well. Darby produced the 14th-lowest completion percentage allowed while in coverage at 54%, finished 16th in PFF coverage grade, and first among all NFL CBs in non-interception pass break-ups — his 16 passes defensed ranked fifth overall in the NFL but came with no interceptions."
"Two corners who excel in the slot and shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg are 29-year-old
Brian Poole and 25-year-old
Cameron Sutton. Poole has flown under the radar after back-to-back excellent seasons with the Jets. Poole has graded out as the 10th-best coverage corner in each of the last two seasons by PFF. He spent 628 snaps in the slot and produced the 19th-lowest yards per snap in the slot this season after finishing with the second-lowest in 2019."
"Sutton was lost in the shuffle on the Steelers’ star-studded defense but played very well in coverage, especially in the slot. He spent most of last season in the slot but once the Steelers’ cornerbacks started going down with injuries, he played out wide more than the slot and his play suffered. In the slot, Sutton allowed 63% completions while in coverage and the ninth-lowest passer rating last season."

one more here, potential vet swing OT
"The best values on the OL typically come from a depth perspective. You most likely aren’t going to find a multi-year starter at tackle but you can find guys who are adequate enough to be a sixth-man on the OL and guys who can play multiple positions. James Hurst, formerly of the New Orleans Saints, is one who I believe can add value to a team’s OL.
Hurst is still relatively young at 29 years old and has played nearly 1,600 snaps at LT, nearly 1,400 at LG, and over 650 at RT in his career. While he has struggled in the run game, Hurst has been excellent as a pass blocker. He has posted PFF pass-blocking grades of 76.1, 66.2, 78.0, and 85.5 in his last four seasons. While mostly playing LT last season, he only allowed two sacks and two total pressures on 168 pass-block snaps. "

Adams had 1/6 the snaps of Lowery, I know we would like to improve on Dean, but he had 3 sacks and 40 plus tackles, so if NE gave Adams 2.5 mil. then Guty giving Lowery 6 mil. seems about right.

IMHO .... the greatest back-up defensive line man in the 100+ year history of the Green Bay Packers is
#78 Bob Brown. After his playing days were done in Green Bay, Bob Brown became a San Diego Charger (as did Lionel Aldridge). See 1975 Topps #448 (Bob Brown), 1973 Topps #174 (Lionel Aldridge) and 1974 Topps #281 (Lionel Aldridge).
GO PACKERS!!
