Weird that Hornung's is unofficially retired. Lombardi announced it would be but then left for Washington and died a few months after.
Would be a nice gesture to make it official before he died. (Although maybe they realise they might be needing all the numbers they can get if they retire 12)
The Packers should have retired Taylor, Hornung, Gregg and Wood a long time ago. They should do all four in one announcement.
And then how are they going to come up with 90 jersey numbers for the pre-season? Can we go to hexadecimal? i.e. 0123456789abcdef? that takes the number of possible jersey numbers to 256 instead of 100. A0 is 100, A1 is 101, A2 is 102, ... FE is 254, FF is 255
Actually it would be 1,296 possibilities.
Although probably less, not sure you’d want zero zero, zero oh, oh zero, and oh oh and other similar occurrences.

How do the Chicago Bears handle it in preseason? Bears have 14 retired numbers. 100 -14 = 86. 86 > 90. Numbers can be sewn upside down..GO PACK GO !!

Looks like the Bears got a bit gung-ho with the jersey retirements...
"Bears say Mike Ditka’s 89 will be the last number they retire" -

It would appear they now have to double up in training camp. From the current roster:

This I imagine makes it harder to tell which players (who you already barely know) are doing what.

I believe the Packers have had double numbers in camp at times as well.

Yeah, there is no "no" argument.
What about if he signed for the Bears and won them two Superbowls?
Now you are just trying to make us angry.
Better be careful .....

I am always amazed by the random irrelevant threads you seem keen on dredging back to life for no apparent reason.

If you don’t retire 12, then you have to take 4 off the ring of honor.

I'm in favour.
But only 6 players in Packers history have had the honor. Watching the Legacy doc I'm reminded just how many greats have not had their number retired.
I dont think any are missing tat should be. You cant just start retiring every number for a great player. They have to be one of the best to ever do it. The only one I would say that doesnt deserve it is Reggie. Obviously an all time great but he only played 6 seasons for the Pack and none of them were ever as good as what he did with the Eagles. If Brett and Bart both have retired jerseys you have to retire Rodgers.
I really don't think you understand the importance of whites presence sometimes stats don't tell the whole story. This team doesn't bring the title home without him. He has as many as AR with more trips and he showed up when it mattered unlike AR has the last decade. (Whether you can admit that or not)
But yes 12 is never worn again

Speaking of numbers, I totally locked in to Ross Dwelley after the Packers lost and was somehow even more pissed off because he was wearing 02... or so it seemed.

I'm pretty sure the only numbers that get retired by the Packers are only those that make the NFL HOF. This approach removes any subjectivity out of the decision.
So yes, Rodgers #12 will retired.
Only 6 retired numbers.
#3 Tony Canadeo
#4 Brett Favre
#14 Don Hutson
#15 Bart Starr
#66 Ray Nitschke
#92 Reggie White
There are 31 Hall of Famers that played/worked in Green Bay:
1963 Curly Lambeau
1963 Cal Hubbard
1963 Don Hutson
1963 Johnny "Blood" McNally
1964 Clarke Hinkle
1964 Mike Michalske
1966 Arnie Herber
1966 Walt Kiesling
1967 Emlen Tunnell
1971 Vince Lombardi
1974 Tony Canadeo
1976 Len Ford
1976 Jim Taylor
1977 Forrest Gregg
1977 Bart Starr
1978 Ray Nitschke
1980 Herb Adderley
1981 Willie Davis
1981 Jim Ringo
1986 Paul Hornung
1989 Willie Wood
1990 Ted Hendricks
1991 Jan Stenerud
1995 Henry Jordan
2003 James Lofton
2006 Reggie White
2013 Dave Robinson
2015 Ron Wolf
2016 Brett Favre
2018 Jerry Kramer
2020 Bobby Dillon
So, yes, only Hall of Famers have retired numbers, but not all Hall of Famers have their numbers retired.
OK.........well then make that 32 now that Leroy Butler made it in. I've never understood why Tony Canadeo's number got retired.
