Should we be looking at Matt Wright? Inconsistent, but he's still at 85% for his career.

Joseph very well may have been the answer. We win todays game if Joseph is our kicker. He made 5 fgs on Thursday.
Why was Narveson kept over Joseph?

Joseph went on a cold streak at one point in camp when Carlson pulled ahead and then bombed in the final preseason game.
Never understood the Narv pickup. He was a &%$@ college kicker in relatively good weather. Strong leg but so erratic.

Joseph all but cemented the job in camp with a commanding lead over Carlson and then completely &%$@ the bed for the rest of camp.

It's not a civil or legal action. It's an NFL investigation. They have concluded it.
There is, apparently, a civil case that has been filed.
Indeed, and that's why I can't dismiss this as a fully concluded thing. Eyes will be on it as long as it's ongoing.
As a personal bias, I don't trust NFL investigations all that much. It's in the league's (and NFLPA's) interest to sweep things under the rug fast and quiet. Pretty sure the league, the owners and the teams don't want increased scrutiny on what groups of young men do on their flights.
Of course, whether this is an extortion attempt or a legitimate case, you kinda have to threaten to take it to court to pressure the other side to the table. I dunno what the deadlines are for dropping the case for the accusers, but my understanding is that the real costs for them, should they ultimately lose, start accumulating once the judge's gavel sounds it's first beats. If it gets that far, it may be a looooong time 'til it's over and done with.
Again, it just sounds a lot of hoopla for an organization that paints itself all class and all away games as just business trips. If they had to go through it for a core player, I could see them doing it. Not for a one-year rental kicker.
Is it common and/or professional practice to air the grievances publicly on social media, as the legal team did in this case? To me, that sounds like a legal team that prefers to go the public route and force a settlement rather than try a case in a courtroom. But, again, that’s me.

Looks like they worked out a couple kickers today. I guess that’s something…

Joseph has an entire resume of kicking in nfl games. It shouldn’t have been a head to head contest that started from the same starting line anyways. Maybe narv was cheaper.

Narveson and Joseph never went head to head.

This thread is still extremely valid. Gutey needs to do something.

As I said in another thread, neither of these two was/are the answer. They both stink.

I have said it before. Below are my ranges:
85%+: kicker is legendary. Elite kicker. Everyone unquestionably sees the kicker's value.
80% - 85%: kicker is average. Good enough to keep but bad enough where fans will have mixed feelings on kicker.
75% - 80%: bad kicker. Team should be looking at upgrading next offseason.
72% - 75%: bottom of league kicker. Team should be looking at replacement during the season.
below 72%: historically bad. Literally can be replaced by any UDFA, UFL, or any international player. You can't get "worse" by moving on.
We are in the below 72%. Meaning there is no risk to replacing Narveson because you can't really get worse.

Yep, that's my thought too. He's had 6 weeks to prove himself. He hasn't. I'd rather have tryouts until we find someone instead of trying people out before Wild Card Weekend.

I hope Gute keeps bringing in kickers until we find someone better. This may be a difficult thing to do right now. One would think any decent kickers have found jobs by now.

It's really not that complicated. We know more than likely the next guy will be in the same range as Narveson - meaning that 67% to 75% guy. Like that is the floor to be ever considered a Division I college plus field goal kicker.
BUT there is also a chance we bring in a guy and he bucks that trend. There is a chance we bring in a guy and it just clicks and he finds his rhythm and we have an 80%+ guy.
It may take 2, 3, or 4 cracks it at but eventually you may find it. And if you don't find it? The consequence is you have a guy who we already have.
So really your choice is:
A - hope your current guy finds that rhythm and hot streak
B - hope someone fresh find that rhythm and hot streak
The Packers went with Option A for a couple weeks longer than I would have. But we are now at the point where Option A isn't working. You can't miss sub 40 yard kicks. You just can't.
Next man up.

I agree. Next Man up but I do think that the Packers know Greg Joseph more right now and we'll his ceiling isn't high but he probably won't miss as many 40+ yarders as the guy we have now. They just are waiting for Graham Gano to come back and Greg Joseph will be let go.

That’s possible.
I’d still, in the mean time, bring in McManus or Bullock and see if they can be effective. Narveson has already contributed to two losses and has misses in victories. He is who he is. No sense letting him lose another game for us without at least trying to upgrade from him.
But it all sound moot at this point:
