This is an unstoppable receiver:
Watson is far from an unstoppable receiver.
In fact, the turf stopped him pretty effectively...

I mean it's the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
The major downfall of the Internet is it gives everyone a platform. I watch some of these "influencers" especially "financial influencers" and can't believe all the just blatant wrong information they spew out. Not knowing the difference between a Balance Sheet or Income Statement. I mean I am seeing legitimate financial advice of how to deduct a wedding on a personal tax return and people legit think this happens (I mean it might actually happen but you can never do it profitably - legally...just the IRS doesn't have the resource to audit everyone). Like my gawd the idiocy out there.
Saying it was worse than Hadl and Mandarich is silly, but I agree it was a mistake to play him, even if it was a bad luck non-contact injury on a knee that was up to that point totally healthy. Just save your key players for the playoffs.
I also feel like you are less likely to have that kind of injury when given some rest, but I could be totally mistaken on that point.

Had we rested all the starters, and then started slow vs the Eagles, all the Skeptics of all forums would have gone “haaaa, they were rusty due to skipping the week, stupidest coaches EVER!”
Bill Belichick, who knows a thing or two, spoke about meaningless games a little back. Per PFT he said:
“I mean, you can only have seven inactive guys,” Belichick said. “Who are they? And it’s tough to go to your team and say, ‘Well, we’re not gonna play you guys over here, but the rest of you get out there. We don’t really care about you. If you get hurt, that doesn’t matter, but these six or seven guys we’re going to protect.’
“You can’t say that to the team. That doesn’t resonate well at all, nor should it. So I always had a hard time with that one. Now, if a guy was fighting an injury and everybody understood that the guy was fighting an injury, OK, that’s one thing. But to just say, ‘Well, you guys are important, but you other guys aren’t, we don’t care what happens to you. Get out there and play.’ That’s not a message I could ever send to the team. Even though there were people in the organization that wanted me to send that, I just couldn’t do it.” End quote.
I can totally get on board with that. This is supposed to be a team, a band of brothers, regardless of status. Resting stars runs the risk of dividing the locker room right before the big games start. Plus the above mentioned rust risk.
LaFleur tried to find a happy medium by playing everyone healthy, but not for full minutes. I thought that was very reasonable. Just bad luck it backfired with Watson (and no, I don’t blame MLF for it. Watson obviously had the all clear on the other knee)

The brace returned the “asymmetry between the legs”. Christian Watson’s bane. All jokes aside it’s just a crappy situation similar to Jordy Nelson’s non contact ACL and not the fault of the coach.go pak go wrote: ↑09 Jan 2025 10:45So you think resting a bruise on the opposite leg of all things an additional 7 days would have saved the ACL?TheSkeptic wrote: ↑09 Jan 2025 10:23Why? A real bummer for Watson, and for the Packers. That said, I respectfully think your post is beyond ridiculous.
Total stupidity should have consequences, right? Can you think of any other description for the decision to play Watson, other than total stupidity? Why is it ridiculous to hold people responsible for their decisions?
Come on dude. This is just a convinient connection you are trying to make here.
Largely agree with Belichick.salmar80 wrote: ↑09 Jan 2025 11:17Had we rested all the starters, and then started slow vs the Eagles, all the Skeptics of all forums would have gone “haaaa, they were rusty due to skipping the week, stupidest coaches EVER!”

Few comments I would have here.
Watson was on the injury list and only was a limited participan on Friday so I do think he should have sat against the Bears. You should always allow your guys on an injury list to not suit up if they are questionable in a game that has no impact on standings.
Another point I will make about Bill is I do see merit in saying meaningless games does offer the opportunity for players who don't see the field to actually see the field. For example, the backup QB will never see the field unless the starter is off. So it's not saying, "hey backup we don't care if you get hurt" but instead is saying, "hey backup we finally have an opportunity for you to show us and the world what you can do"

Taking a game off would not have moved the needle much. These are usually impact/repetitive use injuries. An offseason to heal and strength would have been needed. Had we lost to the Eagles and he gotten through unscathed, maybe this wouldn't happen, but it did.
It is impossible to rest all starters. The game meant something at the time he was injured. His bruise had little/nothing to do with his ACL.
This was not some great mistake to play him.

Sure, the back of the roster guys would be excited, but not so much those who miss out on being labelled worthy of protecting… So you rest Watson but not Doubs or Reed, Tom but not Elg or Walker, etc. Put Willis behind backup Oline and with backup WRs vs Bears starters, increasing his chance at injury and bad stats…go pak go wrote:Largely agree with Belichick.

Easy for us to label players as essential and expendable, harder to sell it as a coach in real life.
you basically answered your own question, we didn't have another Watson type receiver, and it was not a meaningless game, none are, Watson could have had that injury in practice, or simply walking out to his mail box, he and Doubs are Loves main targets, and that's why Lafluer played him, enough with baby sitting players, if your healthy, then you play.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑09 Jan 2025 10:23Why? As a learned person myself, I feel highly qualified to answer this. To give some perspective, we must go back to 1654 when the great Bavarian scholar Twerken Butz first wrote a treatise on the center of thought, which is of course the heart, not the brain as these modern charlatans would have us believe...

Is Watson's injury the topic that will permeate every thread this offseason?
Or will it be Jordan Love-related?
Time will tell.

But seriously. Any Mock Draft that doesn't have a 1st round WR in it (even though this is a poor WR class) will automatically get hate votes because you know....I looked at the roster and stats and intelligently found our team needs.
no one that comes to this forum needs to see anything to know we need better production at WR, and it's not so much a first rounder, cripes we haven't taken a first round receiver since you were in diapers top 90, or so, we need another burner, bring MVS back, WAtson, as much as I like him is not reliable, the rest need to take a leap or there one contract players, so ya, why not bring a couple more in.go pak go wrote: ↑09 Jan 2025 15:46No. Twerken Butz will.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑09 Jan 2025 15:25Is Watson's injury the topic that will permeate every thread this offseason?

depending on this game with Philly, and how Stokes does, will have a reflection on this coming draft, CB might not be as high on the list as first thought, if we need one, I'd buy a seasoned vet, and also draft one maybe 3 rd round or so.
I'am starting to think we go DT in the first, we have to get better pressure with our base 4, someone said it's a good year for the bigs, might as well take one.

As much as I really don't want to see THAT^^^, I'd really like to see that happen.
and yes this team needs top level talent WR, early draft is going to be DB, DL, OL if you ask me. One of those positions. WR's are everywhere every year. Unless you're top 12 the next group of receivers in terms of scouted talent are all very similar and run well into the 2nd and even sometime3rd round for very similar type players.
I know the goal is to win a owl with our GM and coaches every season, but some years seem more suited to that outcome then others, when we jettisoned Rodgers we all new it would take a couple years to clean up dead money, which we have done basically now, next year we'll have more money to spend in UFA, I'am thinking Guty will buy a couple more studs as he did with Jacobs and McKinny, another lock down CB, maybe a field stretching type receiver, etc.musclestang wrote: ↑10 Jan 2025 05:33As much as I really don't want to see THAT^^^, I'd really like to see that happen.

Vrabel to NE, first to fall.
Jaguars and Raiders both requested interviews with Kellen Moore, Eagles OC. Always wonder how much of a distraction that is. Be curious to see what the win rate is, or maybe just vs. the spread when the teams have coordinators trying to get HC jobs.
Even dual for Detroit, seems like every team with a vacancy requested Glenn and Johnson.
Anyways, hoping Moore spending a bunch of time on that resume, preparing for interviews, Hurts being out for 3 weeks and both AJ Brown and Davonte being limited at practice all week, they’ll be nice and rusty and not on the same page

according to Ron Wolf it was a contributing factor for our SB loss to Denver, IMO how can it not be, some times, with some things, multi tasking is a negative to both goals, hope that's the case with MooreBF004 wrote: ↑12 Jan 2025 09:50Vrabel to NE, first to fall.

I believe the only reason Watson played last week was because Doubs was scratched with an illness. I think it was so late in the morning pregame, Watson was needed.
With Vabrel gone hopefully duh bares feel the pressure, jump the gun, and grab that mistake they're know for.
