He only has 2 years left on his contract and this is what it will look like for the Browns to Trade or release him:

As I noticed before, Garretts contract as is fits pretty well with the Packers before Loves hit becomes huge in 2028.

Well, his contract will fit well with every team as the Browns will eat the vast majority of it due to guarantees already paid out and little base salary. That's the problem though, the Browns have almost no incentive to trade or release him.

Well they have to do something to get under the cap in 2025 and it looks like that would be restructuring Watson - which just prolongs the pain from that albatross. https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/cleveland-browns

It wouldn’t help the team get better which is Garrett’s point

Good for Garrett. The Browns wasted Joe Thomas. Garrett will not be the same. This is a player I would really look into trading for.

Offer a 1st, Romeo Doubs, and LVN. They get an edge on a young cheap contract and a 1st round pick. For a 30 year old I think that’s fair. Doubs has no value but it’s something and he’s cheap for them.

I like your thinking. Ideally I’d like a mega trade that sends Garrett and Jerry Juedy to us for some combo of draft picks, LVN, Musgrave or a WR of their choice (Wicks, Doubs, Watson)

Any way that Guty would trade a 1st+ for a guy at age 29, no matter how elite he is?

I think Garrett would be in play there. We have had a ton of picks the past 2 years. I think it would be an easier trade to swallow if we didn’t waste our first round pick last year.

Garrett has been relatively healthy throughout his career and has remained dominant. He’s basically JJ Watt minus the injuries.

All in, if we could get him to come here, are we attractive? imo Garrett would/could solve half of that question; the other would require an upgrade at WR.

I think it'll take Murphy's approval to trade the 2025 R1 pick and I doubt that ever happens. Murphy worked too hard to get the draft to Green Bay for the team to not have a draft pick on the biggest night.

This goes beyond a simple pick trade for Murphy and the executives on the top floor.

Packers fans would be even more ecstatic on draft night if we traded for Garrett over any player available in this entire draft.

Honestly looking at the cap breakdown I think the Browns have to wait until post June 1st anyways. They almost $30M in the hole already and Garrett makes it worse if traded before. Might not even have to give up this years 1st.

In order to trade for Garrett he has to be willing to take an extension with the team he’s going to. That team will have to be a winning team.

The Commander, Chargers, Vikings, and Lions have the most caps space in that order of the playoff teams. Steelers and us are next. I really can’t see the Vikings or Steelers making this move. They have edge players. I’m feel like the Chargers and Commanders would absolutely make this move. Especially the Commanders making it to the NFCC and having all that cap space. The thing is we have the better pick this year and that could influence the weight of the future pick being traded.

I don’t doubt that, myself included.

I just don’t think Murphy and Co will look at it like a common fan. Think of it in terms of your argument the Packers brass doesn’t care about winning…

Also, I think I read something that basically guarantees the Browns trade Garrett before June 1st because of some bonus or contract escalator. Can’t remember the details but the piece was pretty adamant he’d be traded before June 1.

What’s with the push to get rid of him? Are the against the cap that bad?

$30M cap hit this year. Just can’t pay that much to a WR. I’m betting they asked him to take a cut and he said no. They have Puka who is their future at the position. They can get away with moving on from Kupp and it would save them $17M.
