The 3rd QB must be on the 53 roster (can not be elevated from practice squad for the game), can only play if both other quarterbacks are injured or ejected from the game. If either primary quarterback is cleared, the 3rd Qb will be required to exit the game, until and unless both QB's are again unable to play.

Isn't that the old rule? Back when you had 45 active and a 46th could be an emergency QB? Not sure how necessary that really is or how much it changes anything given how many PS people are up and down and how few teams even have a 3rd QB on the 53.

From the
ESPN write-up:
NFL owners approved a rule Monday that allows teams to designate an emergency quarterback on game day, a rule they revived after the San Francisco 49ers ran out of quarterbacks during their loss in the NFC Championship Game last season to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The rule applies only to quarterbacks who are on a team's 53-man roster. Practice squad players are not eligible to be emergency quarterbacks, not even if they are elevated for that week's game. But it allows a team to avoid counting the emergency quarterback as one of its active players on game day, a modest incentive for teams that otherwise would have chosen to go into a game with only two available quarterbacks.
The emergency quarterback would be eligible for in-game activation if the rest of a team's quarterbacks are unable to participate due to injury or ejection, but not as a result of a benching. If one of the other quarterbacks is cleared to return to the game, the emergency quarterback must be removed at that time and can return only if there is once again no other option.

I hate changing this rule cause SF effed up. They seem to get a free pass on everything, They’ve won as much as we’ve had the last decade and everyone looks at them with such awe. Our fan base would destroy Gute/Ted/MM/LaFleur for the same mistakes. With new Covid rules, easier than ever to put 3 QBs active. SF should have. Doesn’t need to be a rule to suit 3 guys, just suit 3 guys.
However, given this and Letroy Guion playing guard in a championship game, just like 58 guys already.

Here is my solution. The entire practice squad can dress on gameday. The "inactive list" can be set to arrive at 55 active players or whatever. In-game injuries requiring a player to be ruled out can be replaced by someone else from the "inactive list". Player compensation would be exactly what it is now, but in-game promotions would result in the highest level pay. That is what I would do.

I’ve got no problem with the rule change. If you’re down to a 3rd string emergency QB you’ve already lost. All this does is improve the game. At least get someone serviceable in and make the game watchable. That playoff game last year was a waste of time.
I didn’t have a problem with them only have 2 QBs on the roster. If they did they would have been in their 5th QB. At that points it’s just unlucky.

To your point, it would still be a waste of time with a 3rd-string QB, but at least it wouldn't be this embarrassing talking point about not having a QB to play in an NFC Title Game.

Yep.
I don't view this rule change as a means for a given team to hypothetically pull out a win. I view it as the NFL making sure the product remains viewable. If that 3rd QB is entering the game, it's already lost. It now becomes a matter of being tolerable to watch and not have sponsors who paid booku bucks griping for a refund.

Doesn't sound like Jets practice is starting so well. Rodgers not practicing (but is on the field) and being reported he's favoring an ankle. Lazard went down hurt as well and left the field with a trainer.

The Thursday flexing thing was approved, but an advance warning of full 28 days will be required to do a Thursday-Sunday switcheroo.
I can't help but hate it. 28 days is well enough time for teams to adjust to it, but still a kick in the nuts for the stadium-going fans, especially those who have to book travel in advance.
The only good thing is that since expanded playoffs make more late season games meaningful, the chances of knowing a game will be meaningless a month in advance are low. Therefore it's unlikely Thursday flexing is used as much as feared.

It’s good to know Florio doesn’t limit his douchebaggery to just Rodgers and the Packers.

Cold weather kicker. Plenty of experience. Strong leg.
Only a 81% career FG dude but that never stopped Packer fans from fawning over a kicker.

Honestly everyone hates the choice of Commanders as the name around here (I live about 25-45 minutes outside of DC) so having a new owner forced to choose a new name again might be better long-term. Everyone hates Snyder; turn the page, change the name (again).

Yes, but his agent hasn't. Nor have his peers who look to Mahomes to reset the market every few years.
Love the attitude he's putting out there but the business side of the NFL goes well beyond the individual. It'll be interesting to see what happens once his long contract is fully outdated and pressure builds for him to, again, reset the market.
