This was a classic, looking past your opponent game. Before the game, Lafleur in his interview was asked about the guys that were out. For every single one Jones, King, Bakhtiari, and Greene, he mentioned how they were looking to get them back for Thursday's game. He didn't say that they were not quite ready or something along those lines, he specifically mentioned Thursday's game. They were not ready to play that game.

If that is true, it doesn't say much about the head coach. Part of his job is to make sure the team is focused on the task at hand, the next game. In this then he has failed miserably.

I really felt we lost the game when we tried to tap out of the style of game it was. In the first half Williams and Dillon were moving the ball, and the drives ended in TDs. There was no reason to abandon that style. We just either panicked down 7, or got tired of the slow grind and grew impatient. But we were still in a dog fight down 21-14 and then we threw the ball 4 straight times, and caused us to turn the ball over on downs, and the rest was history.

Running the ball was working slowly but surely, Williams looked good.

What happened after the Tonyan completion? Was that the garbage Lewis call and dropped EQ balls?

Because the next drive I think we did try and "run" per-se but Ervin dropped the shovel pass end around and then also couldn't connect on a WR screen I think two plays in a row that ended a drive.

Ervin really sucked yesterday.

Our issues right now are on the other side of the ball. If we can't stop the run and play soft against the pass you are going to see a repeat of what we witnessed yesterday. It doesn't help when your D line is full of JAGs other than your nose tackle. The Smith Brothers are invisible this year and we can't keep King on the field.

I think Clark is part of the problem and we once again are falling victim to, "well he played well before this year so it must not be his fault."

Clarks problem is, Pettine see's him as the run stuffer and that's it. Nobody else seems to have the ability to stand in there and do the job.
So it all falls on him. I can't see Pettine lasting after this year considering all of the money and drafts picks that has gone to the defense.

Just wondering if the Packers become a 4-3 defense in the future?

I mean all things considered, I liked the fight this team did show late despite still being 'flat'.

I mean the D finally ponied up and made a few big stops to keep us in it and give it a shot.


Definitely doesn't help that twice in the 4th quarter, once on a 4th down, and once with 30 seconds left, the refs completely blew a call.


The refs very far down the list of reasons why we lost, but they call either of those correctly, really could have been a very different ending.

For some reason we seem to carry over momemtum from week to week, from end of game to beginning, e.g., end up Minny, beginning of Detroit. So perhaps since we ended more successfully in the 4th, maybe our D will start out better against SF.



I just really wanna go beat SF and end the first half of the season at 6-2, knowing we have the warts we have where things really could just 'magically' improve like on the D if that front 5 starts carrying their weight.

And he did that more than once. He was following a few players around the field. Preston Smith in man coverage following a receiver. Is that the right thing to complain about scheme on? That's why I said, if he can't rush the passer take him off the field. this is not a suitable alternative.

I think it was smart what MN was doing. We played more traditional 3-4 base personnel then I ever remember us playing, or a lot of 2-5 as well. Either way, a lot of 2 ILB's all day. They countered with continually making us line up our LB's out side.

Don't have to block Preston Smith (like it's hard) if he isn't anywhere near the run.

That is the dumbest scheme ever and we sat through 10 years of Dom Capers.

Putting a 3-4 OLB split wide with a TE and asking him to man up...

Stop playing 2 high and walk a damn safety down there.

Fire him today.

When Amos or Savage were playing near the LOS, it actually worked. Amazing! Miraculous what can happen when you play players where they are best suited.

No Raven Greene and Redmond and Vernon Scott sucking probably played a hand in those groupings.

Too much Lancaster. Too much Lowry. Too much Gary. Needed Adams in there more (6 snaps!) and Winn activated and things would have been better.

And yet, we sat in 2-high all damn day.
