There was a guy on one of the old versions of this forum who used to refer to Matt Ryan as "glorified Chad Pennington." I thought it was accurate. Not an insult BTW- Chad Pennington was a solid QB when he could stay healthy.
I used to refer to him as Matty Slush. Many of his fans named him Matty Ice, as if he was superb at crunch time. But that is a form of him that I never saw.

Some absolute no brainers, but also some pretty shocking names and notable absences.

I thought forum consensus was that Mathew Stafford sucked, and was a lousy QB, and going to the Ram-ets was the only thing that saved his career, or was it Calvin Johnson

Sanders averaged a buck plus playing us and Payton and Peterson weren't far behind
Top 3 offensive skill players that I have seen the Packers face within the division are

1. Randy Moss
2. Adrian Peterson
3. Calvin Johnson

Am I forgetting anyone?
Barry.

Interesting. The biggest difference, Eli has 2 SB wins.

They are basically the same player with the exception being Eli stepped up in the playoffs while Matty Slush melted down.

Matt Ryan’s stats are significantly better. I have always thought he was just an ok QB with a decent arm, good accuracy, and had a pretty good kind for the game. He never had any elite traits.

Statistically if you had never seen him play 1 MVP and being top 10 in most passing categories should get him in.

I have always been most curious about Phillip Rivers getting in.

Does "that I have seen the Packers face " have anything to do with his list?

how so? Ryan beats Eli in every tabulated stat that matters and it takes more then a QB to win SB's, Ryan should make the HOF :idn:

Matt Ryan wasn't a top 5 QB in his era and didn't win a SB. Out.

imo neither would be in HOF...except for what you point out...that Eli stepped up in the playoffs...and that is of massive importance to me. So i would put him in. Beating the Pats and disrupting their perfect season is a story that should be told in the HOF. The QB who led that should be in, imo.

Ah, I missed that. Maybe a young whippersnapper. I never got to see Walter Payton play (other than highlights, obviously), but I sure remember Barry Sanders.

I had to look up MVP winners not in the HoF. There’s quite a few. Ryan most similarly resembles Ken Anderson as he has a few pro bowls, and MVP and a bad post season record.

I know this is very division heavy, but just surprised to not see guys like Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, TO, Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Jerry Rice. Having seen that list now, I would love to see a production per game, minimum 5 games, list or something along those lines.

I am 31. The first Packers game I can really remember watching was the 49ers playoff game in 1998. Never really saw Sanders, definitely not Payton.

I always assumed you were an older fan for some reason. Not sure why and don't have any reason for it. Maybe your writing/posting style? Kinda weird on my part, actually...

IMO Eli is a lock because he has 2. If he had none, he'd have no chance. Even if he had only 1, there would still be a lot of debate.

As good as Megatron was, I never feared him like I feared Randy Moss. Moss was truly a player that tilted the field. It's a shame we didn't land him in 2007.

some of us figured that out just looking at those 3 names you listed, anyone that actually saw Payton and Sanders would never forget them

to me it had to do with our fear of the teams they played for, Minn. had the better over all teams through out the Moss era, Detroit during the Johnson years didn't field as complete a roster :idn:

my first memory of the Packers was when I was around 7.

Reggie White was from my home town my dad took me to see him speak at FCA type event. That originally got me into the Packers, but then the love grew for many reasons:

Green was favorite color

The G was the same G the Georgia Bulldogs used and they were my favorite college team

When I first played video games I would always play with the Packers. Learned the whole roster through games...Antonio Freeman, Leroy Butler, Dorsey Levins, Favre of course.

Then I loved the Packers tradition. I used to do book reports on the ice bowl and Vince Lombardi.

Good times.
