TJ Tampa? Best available and need fit.
Doubt we like him

Don't know much about him, but I really like addressing safety again.

Huh. Sure taking strong safety. Not the ones I would have thought (Oladipo or Mustapha). Don’t have an opinion in this guy. Research time

Long wait now. All the guys left on our boards will be gone by the end of the fifth

Find me 10 tweets supporting why he could be the best player in the draft, and don't show me any of the negative ones.

Meh. I liked Evan Williams but another guy I feel like was a round too early. I’m really shocked we took him over Hicks. I just thinkHocks is a far superior athlete.

My guess is we trade up again and take another swing. This draft is full of Canadien league players after about the 5th round

VERY little ball production. I like looking at PDs for safeties to see if they’re making plays on the ball or just cleaning up. This guy feels like special teams and dime S/LB possibility.
Ya know, a body at a position we need bodies at, but not a ton of upside. Not a role of the dice so much as a check of a box (safety)

Felt confident they were going to double dip at LB and S, but not sure I thought the job would be done by Pick 111.

almost seems like Hicks failed personal interviews, or something about him GM's didn't like, that we don't know about.

Finally seem to be emphasizing prospects that can tackle.

We certainly haven’t drafted for speed in the secondary this year

Williams is a Fresno State transfer who led the Ducks in tackles in his only season at Oregon. He's an active and aggressive run-defender who flies around and has some pop as a tackler. He can line up deep, over the slot and in the box. Williams closes quickly and tracks the ball well providing help over the top. He's also competitive matching up with tight ends. While he didn't run as well as expected at the combine (and he doesn't move like a centerfielder free safety), his reported 40-yard dash time (4.56) at his pro day is a better reflection of the range he shows on tape. He's quicker than fast with explosive closing burst. -- Steve Muench
Strong safety, slot guy?

Moving up, for this selection! Guty has been doubted for these unexpected selections in the past. I like his track record, and his belief.

Yep, Williams.
This may be a Bisaccia pick more than anything. Safety depth, but instant special teamer.

So, why did Guty trade UP to get Williams? What does Guty see there that nobody else seems to see?

I honestly think Gutey has just been drafting for needs, and a third safety to compete after X is not a bad thing. And this kid does not look like a starter, but he looks like depth and that’s never a bad thing. My feeling is Gute is just tossing late round picks into the wind in order to move up while there are still guys in need positions that aren’t destined for the PS.
