I been doing this stuff for over 70 years, my pops was dragging me to Packer games since I was 4, and if there is any one thing I know, it's that people including me (coaches, GM's, scouts included) never really know when a QB will get it all figured out.
Darnold was doing OK, till he failed to decipher pre snap pass rush, and he panicked once it got the best of him.
no different than the first 6 or so games for Love, and the main reason most QB's fail, being able to see and decipher where the rush will come from, and alluding it with poise to deliver on schedule accurate passes is just as important as the physical skills.
It's what makes Rodgers still worth a contract, and Darnold worth more time in Minnesota, he just needs more time in the saddle

I actually don't hate the move. $33.33 million is getting pretty low for a starting veteran. Darnold showed he is servicable but likely not ever going to be Top 5. Top 10 to Top 15 is probably his ceiling but that's still not a terrible ceiling.
In the meantime it allows the Hawks to not be a liability the next two years and I am sure the contract is set up where Seattle can have it be more of a 2 year deal if they want.
You gotta have a starting QB. It makes no sense having a guy like Sam Howell because you are then so bad that you can't evaluate anyone else.

Darnold looked good on a team with a tremendous supporting cast on offense (good OL, good running game, and four-deep in quality receiving options) and an elite offensive-minded head coach. His play fell off a cliff once defenses succeeded in getting consistent pressure on him.
Now he goes to a Seattle team that for years has been and continues to be unable to protect the QB (which Geno Smith masked with his mobility), whose only above average receiving target is a slot guy, and whose coach is a D guy. That's a recipe for disaster if I ever saw it.
Honestly, might as well just play Sam Howell. Darnold starts strong but then falls off, so he will play well enough to screw them out of Manning while leading to the same practical result.

Williams had a 91.7 PFF pass rush grade as part of an Eagles rotation with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis inside, picking up five sacks in 653 defensive snaps. He’ll add some pocket push to a Patriots defense that had almost nothing of this caliber inside in 2024, and team with Harold Landry to try to get New England’s defense back to the prestige it enjoyed during the Bill Belichick years.
