From Lambeau to Lombardi, Holmgren, McCarthy and LaFleur and from Starr to Favre, Rodgers and now Jordan Love we’re talking Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers football. This Packers Forum is the place to talk NFL football and everything Packers. So, pull up a keyboard, make yourself at home and let’s talk some Packers football.
That's cool. I don't care what round we get receivers, but I know we need at least two. Generally, I don't like spending first-round picks on receivers though.
why, everyone we've taken in our lifetime excelled, thing is imo most drafted later need more time to transition, obviously eventually many of them do well to, the only reason I want one in the first this year is need and readiness to play.
In my time as a fan, we've drafted Javon Walker and that's it. Sample size of 1!
I just don't like spending a 1st rounder (or two) on WR unless the guy is really something special - like Julio Jones level.
to me it's all about production, in that sense any of Olave, Wilson, and London are walk on ready to deliver that, same probably with Burks because he fits into everything we do, if he's smart enough to pick it up, Williams is the same, maybe even the best, but he might need a few games to finish healing, Dotson is small but also walk on ready to go and he has the brains to grasp what we do, Pickens starts my second round, then it's a toss up between Pierce, Tolbert, Skyy Moore and some others
I'd like one of the top 6 and one of the other half doz.
So why do desperate measures have to be taken? Is this just another set up to be angry unless we trade up in the first?
you got it, not everyone has there head buried in the sand, why shouldn't fans be upset when your GM drafts a QB or a edge rusher that sits for two years.

I have to admit it would be pretty cool (dunno if smart) if AR went from having zero 1st round WRs to having 3 (including Watkins)...

So by saying, "you got it," you will be angry if we don't trade up in the first?
You are dredging up 2 and 3 year old gripes to reply to questions about what may happen in 5-6 hours? What part was burying my head in the sand?
I find it crazy that you continue to believe Rashan Gary was a bad pick.
FYI, I was just as upset with the Love pick as anyone else at the time.
Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
For the record, I am all for taking a WR in round 1. Williams, London, or Olave. But I don't think that the drop-off is as huge as some think to guys like Watson, Pierce, Tolbert, and Thornton. No one in this draft is perfect. Regardless, we'll come away with probably 2 and we'll see what happens.
well if there isn't a drop off then some will go round one or early second, often they go off in runs, 3 or 4 in succession so if we want one of them we have to use slot 28 or trade up in round two I think. I like a lot of these guys too, but I think most need some coaching up, or mores so then the top 6, I see you didn't list Burks with London and the others, I know he didn't test well, and someone said he blew the wonderlic, but I don't think I saw a bad play and I watch quite a few, to me he may provide more production then even Olave, Wilson etc. we play a lot of PA, and he'd seem a perfect fit for that.

I would never use slot 12 on a D&D player, I don't care what that player could become, specially not in this era of huge second contracts to stud players, basically with a 5th year option we lost his first two and it's debatable that we'll be able to resign him, thats why.
yep I will be upset if we don't use slot 22 or trade up for one of the top 5, so mark this down so you can throw it in my face next year when we take someone else and they do well.
and track records is what you went with against me about stokes, my complaint with Guty is the same thing, he keeps over looking drafting a quality receiver, now we lost the receiver that Rodgers has had to depend on and the cupboard is bare, because Guty had to have his replacement QB.

we've watched Ron Wolf, and Teddy T double and triple up to fix a position, would love to see Guty do that.
I just don't think some people realize just how much better it is to have two #1's then just one and a bunch of #3 receivers as has been the case, it's night and day, I know we had the #1 offense, but I don't understand why that should be good enough, there are times when our offense struggled because defenses where good against the run and they closed down Adams and we lost, point is we have the best QB in the league, why not make it easier for him to succeed.

You are right, I didn't put Burks with the others. I like him, but just a tier below. That's based off my thoughts and also what I think the Packers value. He very well could be the guy. But I think his testing and then some reports of poor interviews knocks him down a bit.
I think London and Williams are a bit closer to "sure things" and would take them higher. Olave a little bit behind those 2. But overall, the top 10-12 WRs are really close to me talent-wise. The top tier just needs a little less coaching up in areas.
I just opened this thread to say as a joke that I predict all we will hear about is yoop complain about no WRs taken in the last 7 years and how Rashan Gary was a bad pick regardless due to "riding the pine" in San Francisco in the NFC Championship game.
But then I opened the thread to mark my comment and read yoop's posts today....
The whole damn NFL draft prediction thread is filled with yoop complaining about lack of WRs and drafting Love and Gary.

Humans arguing whether in politics, sports, etc. is funny. Essentially everyone just regurgitates the same crap to argue whatever point they want.
I said this countless times defending the Gary pick. I love depth. Especially at premium positions like Edge. I loved the "tripling down and having multiple "#1's at Edge"
You hated depth at Edge. But apparently are now in love with it at WR.
And honestly Guty has absolutely "tripled up to fix positions". He did it at TE. He did it at CB. He did it at Safety. He did it at Edge. He did it at Oline. He did it even at WR...just less resources.
Position chasing is a never ending argument because once you fix one position, you will have holes at another. And yet every year it's the same discussion about complaining how "one position" is a weakness.

yep you started the ball a rolling, as usual you set me of in a bad mood with your homerisms, and whatever Guty does is fine with me crap, I'am glad I can think for myself rather then have my GM do it for me.

what depth, Watkins hasn't finished a season, neither has Cobb and Lazard is a #3 receiver, your great at creating any narrative that suits your opinion, problems it's nothing but bull &%$@.
Specific to us, one of my last-minute draft thoughts is that I'm really feeling Lewis Cine as one of our picks. Not sure where, but yeah.
We don't need a "star" so much as we need a Henry Black upgrade, and of course more help on 'Teams, both roles which suit Cine perfectly, and he has that mentality that fits perfectly with what Joe Barry clearly instills into this unit.
... see you folks Friday night!!

The only reason I went off of Cine late is his age. He's a year older than Hill. But I like him a lot and if the Packers do decide to go outside of their norms in the 1st for age, he is definitely an option. But I like all the top safeties so I'll be happy to get any of them.
I just feel like Pickens makes too much sense. I think it happens and hope for the best.
I 've always liked Pickens, and he does have first round talent for sure, it was always the off field stuff that scared me off, but we've had him in for a visit, so if we take him I feel we've done the homework, I've heard several comments minus injury and the off field issues and he's a top ten prospect
