Love has a new contract extension. Any QB that might be brought in won’t be paid more than Love.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑22 May 2023 08:55That may be but the Packers don't have the salary cap to afford a competent older vet. They can only afford the incompetent ones. As for a competent one, he is going to cost more than Love does. Do you REALLY want your backup QB earning more than Love? How would that fly in the locker room (like a lead balloon I suspect)Yoop wrote: ↑22 May 2023 07:20fans in this forum might be reasonable, even that is highly unlikely, but those that go to that stadium for the games wont have that sort of patience, and they certainly will voice there displeasure if Love doesn't do well, and that will happen before the end of 2023, Love isn't going to get 2 seasons to become a good QB, specially if Rodgers does well in N Y.Scott4Pack wrote: ↑21 May 2023 19:10
I think that Love has every reason to succeed in every game, at least for the first 50 minutes. He knows the playbook. He has the physical skills. The game has hopefully slowed down for him already. The playbook will be simple at first. And the expectations are going to be reasonable. If Love fails to meet expectations, i think that’ll come in 2025, not 2024.
any competent older vet would be a better backup option then Clifford.
imo Love is more ready now then Rodgers was when he took over for Favre, still anything can happen, and I and fans in the stands wont support tanking the season just because the new young QB sucks or gets injured.

- Love's salary this season is $1,010,000 with a $3,399,271 bonus (plus incentives?)
- A 7+ year vet would get a minimum salary of $1,165,000 plus a signing bonus

But he won't be competent, i.e more capable of leading the team than Clifford should Love get hurt. If he is competent he will want approximately what Love is getting, which causes cap problems and locker room problems.Crazylegs Starks wrote: ↑22 May 2023 12:24For everyone's reference:Scott4Pack wrote: ↑22 May 2023 12:07Love has a new contract extension. Why would any QB that made 20+ mil a year for several years want to play for what to him is chump change?
You want someone that would help the team and help Love and Clifford, fine, hire Drew Brees or Tony Romo or someone like them as a coach.
Looking only at base salary is foolish and misleading. He gets paid the entire signing bonus this season, only the cap impact is prorated over many years.Crazylegs Starks wrote: ↑22 May 2023 12:24For everyone's reference:Scott4Pack wrote: ↑22 May 2023 12:07Love has a new contract extension. The very minimum Love will earn over the two years is 15.3M, so 7.65M average. I'd be real upset if we signed a vet who costs more than that.

I'll be damned. Joe Arrigo - the referenced "source" from that youtube clip - is still out there drumming up "news" on the Packers.

Love the cut up, the song leaves something to be desired, for me.
Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
Ok that was kinda weird...

Love is doing about as well as he can be at this point, I’d say. He is poised and knows the scheme very well. He makes his progressions pretty well. His accuracy throwing looks good so far, and even excellent at times.
About the only thing he hasn’t flashed so far is an ability to overcome in the fourth quarter. And that needs time to ferment and take shape.
I’m thinking we found a keeper!

Love looks decent so far. Really needs to improve his completion percentage. It’s not sustainable what he’s doing and I’m worried once he gets paid and his team talent take a hit he will look like a Derek Carr. He has improved past my Cutler comparison because he’s very safe with the ball minus one mistake so far.
Accuracy is still a major problem for him though.
