If he was garbage and his backups even worse then what I said is true - we need to upgrade our OL big time.

Our OL is pretty good but they arent great. We keep seeing where we go into a really stout or strong line they dont dominate. We play the Eagles this year wit ha really strong front and they were bullied. We played the 49ers with a really strong front last year and I dont think they necessarily performed well. Going against the Buccs they were getting beat up front.

I think part of the problem is we arent all that big up front. The Eagles outside of their center are all over 6'6 and 325 plus. Now that is super rare to find in general but ours are a long lighter and smaller. Walker is 6'5 313. Tom is 6'4 304. Jenkins is 6'4 311. Rhyan is the biggest of the bunch at 6'5 320.

I know a lot of people are against it but I really think the future of this team needs to be Tom at C and now with Morgan on the team make him the RT. You go Walker, Jenkins, Tom, Rhyan, and Morgan across the board. You instantly get more power and athleticism on your line by doing that.

I don't love our offensive line.
It's got a lot of "good enough" and not a lot of great

But I'm not going to let Zach Tom's worst performance taint my opinion of him as a player. He is a really really good NFL OT. I think the interior needs a revamp where Jenkins is no longer the best/only reliable option inside.
Yeah I think you imrpove at 2 positions and you are good.

Center is an upgradable position and then one of either LT, LG, RG.

spot on we draft for dancing bears, not maulers, we like the quick feet for pass pro, and zone blocking, but now we use more gap and duo, and Maulers are best for that, jmo, and had it a long time

Yup. This is primarily what I meant in that "Changes Made Thread". We as a team this offseason need to figure out what type of team we want to be.

The old Packer mold was great and athletic pass blockers but weaker with the run. I don't think we are that team anymore and should start changing the personnel we bring in as a result.

The problem I have in general is that when we DO try to draft bigger guys on OL, it's been where we've failed more. When we stick to the formula of the athletic guys, it's when we get hits. Myers over Humphrey was about getting bigger. The Day three flops have been bigger guys or maulers (Hansen, that Simon guy). Glover and Telfort are bigger guys and they're the ones who failed.

Then you see us draft Bakh in 5 and Tom in 4 with identical profiles and they're stars. Rhyan and Jenkins are kinda trying to split the difference.

Our staff specifically is better at evaluating and finding good OL who are more athletic than ones who are better bullies.

I think the draft of Rhyan showed they want bigger interior or at least more run pro ready with interior, , but still rather the agility at tackle, and seems the reason Rashad WAlker lost 12lbs from 23 season to this one, he weighed 325 in 2023 according to my old player roster from 23.

Tom is the mauler mindset that I think we want at center, and Morgan the more athletic (we'll still need to see it) at RT, Jenkins, when on his game, also doesn't need the added weight, still I think it's time to add another to OL.

Considering how his replacements fared, I wouldn't call it "garbage". He was going up against elite talent. He wasn't gonna win every snap.

Did he shut down the talent across from him? No, but he held his own more times than not without being penalized.

Now Glover and Telfort got dominated. They were, as you aptly describe it, garbage.

Yeah. Agreed. But is that because that is the profile that they want, or because they just seem more able to find that type over the other?

FWIW, the officiating in the Rams/Vikes game was horrible. Hard to say they were just bad against the Pack. They've "underperformed" in other games too.

I agree with this. Every year we objectively have a good line, top 10 or top 5 most years, but repeatedly run up against a more smashmouth line in the playoffs and get shown up. There will be tradeoffs but overall it's clear which style is superior in January.

I certainly think this lineup is worth considering when the time comes. However, a lot will depend on FA and draft outcomes.

One thing in the Packers favor is that they have what appears to be a credible starting 5 Oline already on the roster. There is no need to force a “need” pick for any of them. If a player is there, great, draft him. If not, take somebody else and roll into TC with this lineup and add some developmental pieces.

If we are going to be a running team, we need to upgrade Walker. The guy is worse than Clifton and Bakhtiari at run blocking by an order of magnitude.

Yeah I keep thinking Walker is your 2nd guy to upgrade. For one I do believe he took a step back from last year's 2nd half. But agreed he's just not a good run blocker. Love how cheap he is, but ultimately I think this is a guy you want as your swing tackle rather than starting left tackle.

In my ideal world, Jordan Morgan battles for the starting LT spot and we then look at upgrading Center in FA or the draft.

I agree there is room for upgrade with Walker. I don't consider it critical, though. The team has rolled with him at LT for 2 yrs now and they've been successful running and passing. He's not an All-Pro but you could certainly do worse, especially when you consider he's starter caliber on a rookie R7 contract.

I question that Lafleur actually wants to be a running team in the sense of higher % of run to pass? that seemed to happen this year out of necessity due to LOves injuries and the decline from our receivers, once Jacobs showed he could carry a heavy load it almost seemed like Lafleur gave up on the pass game, less short patterns with Kraft and Jacobs, seemed air ball was in total decay.

Like to see better run blocking at LT, or a new big at center, and all we heard 3 years ago is that Tom's could be a all pro center, and eventually first ballot HOFamer, now though he's a very good RT unless he faces speed rusher with counter ability, that dude Sunday beat smoked him and went free to eat our QB, my point is, we could see some line shifts, specially if Stenavich gets a HC gig.

I hear ya, we spent a 1st on Morgan, the slap on him in TC was he was slow to pick up the blocking schemes, how true that is, who knows, but IMO WAlker is to valuable to sit, if we don't start him then trade him for a guy like Max Crosby, far to talented to be a swing tackle IMHO. most teams prioritize pass pro from LT's, at that WAlker does pretty well, probably as well or better than half the LT's in this league, IMO he would be easy to trade.

I agree. Tom is an upgrade at center and Morgan is not a guard. Morgan was not drafted to be a backup
