That makes no sense to me. None at all.
We already have Darren Waller - his name is Allen Lazard. The stats are very close. And I think Lazard blocks better....and he's younger and cheaper.
2021 Waller: 55 Rec 665 Yards 12.1 AVG 2 TD
2021 Lazard: 40 REC 513 Yards 12.8 AVG 8 TD

Strange take. I would love Waller. Hopefully the raiders like Lazard as much as u do. Straight up.Ghost_Lombardi wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 19:40That makes no sense to me. None at all.

Not a matter of liking Lazard. It doesn't matter what you call them - WR or move TE. They both line up in the same positions and Waller is a &%$@ blocker. He's 30 and coming off a down season. Lazard is 26 and with Adams gone will likely see more targets.Realist wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 19:50Strange take. I would love Waller. Hopefully the raiders like Lazard as much as u do. Why pay 14 million to a vet past his prime when the same production is already on the team, in the form of a cheaper, younger player?
It just makes no sense to me.

I would probably feel better about giving 59 to the Raiders at his current salary, would only be like 6.5 million this year and next as of now, than I would around like two 1sts for Deebo.
Waller + Traylon Burks + another decent pick at their $ probably > Deebo

Did u know that Darren is the great grand son of famous jazz pianist Fats Waller? Might want to rethink ur opinion sir.Ghost_Lombardi wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 19:55Not a matter of liking Lazard. Carr is not in favor. I tend to agree. If it was going to happen, it would have by now.

Also, why would the Raiders openly be wanting to trade him?
Kind of made more sense if they felt he was needed to get Davante, but why now?
Under contract for two more years at a very reasonable number, all they have behind him is Foster Moreau who has underwhelmed and is in his final year.
Just seems kind of counter productive at this point.

I believe he wants a new deal. Being 30 this season, they may want to get top value for him.BF004 wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 20:19Also, why would the Raiders openly be wanting to trade him?

He would be the best tightend we have had in like forever. Can't see why the raiders would trade him. Perfect combo with Adams.
They only have about $5M in cap space. Draft will take up most or all of that. It may just be a cap relief deal. But I agree, makes sense to keep him unless he plays hardball.Realist wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 20:33paco wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 20:21I believe he wants a new deal. I was going to ask about their cap space. God love Renfroe but defenses keyed in on Waller. With Adams there now they will have to pick their poison. Looking forward to watching that division.
Nagler doesnt spout click bait. I think if hes saying we are really trying, there is a pretty good chance that it happens.

three years from now be damned, this offense looks ALOT different (re: better) with Tonyan as TE2 mid year, Waller as TE1, a couple new rookies, Sammy Watkins, and Lazard the run blocker.

Waller caught 665 yards and was a gimp all season and missed quite a bit of time.Ghost_Lombardi wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 19:40That makes no sense to me. None at all.

Lazard has never once taken over a game like Waller has taken over games.
Im with Realist, if Lazard is anything like you say...the Raiders should be happy to do a player swap straight up. Raiders can enjoy the cap relief.

Don't really trust JPA or whatever that is, but this would be an amazing land.
2019 and 2020 he was considered a top 5 if not top 2 TE at times.
Sounds like he was still really good last year, despite missing some time and reduced production.
I think this would be an awesome splash. And I mean talk about making life easier on your WR's if you get a guy like this, sub 4.5 speed that can beat CB's deep 6'6" 240.
If we get a WR in the first and trade for Waller, you gotta think we become the favorites in the NFC (again). Any I'd argue by a pretty fair margin.
Given we have a ton of draft picks right now, and we are trying to win a Super Bowl within the next two year, this would probably be our best bang for the buck using our resources to do so.
I would be all in pending trade compensation and possible new contract.

My stance on pricey trades remains: I don't think it's the right time/cap situation to do it. If he doesn't need a new deal, this is a different conversation.
And I will preface my next thought by saying OF COURSE a player like Waller (or a Kyle Pitts type) can make a mark on any team in any scheme.
But I just hate the receiver-only TE model for this offense. I hate it. I think you need a 2-way TE that can line up in-line or in the slot and you need a move TE that can play all around the formation including FB.
Receiving-only TEs only serve to take a WR off the field, and while right now we're thin at WR, I just don't see that as a major added value. Like obviously, Waller would make our team better in many ways. I'm not saying he won't. I just feel like this scheme is among the worst fits for this type of talent and is unlikely to be fully satisfactory for either party.
I'd rather try to improve our WR room than bring in Waller. I won't be mad about it. I won't pretend he doesn't add something intriguing. I just don't really feel the fit is ideal.

id be thrilled to let Waller come in and take one of our WRs off the field. Sounds like tremendous addition by subtraction.

He isn't a bad blocker, just not a huge reason to ask him to do it a lot. I wouldn't call it a strength, seems like its been up and down over the years. Seems to be better than Tonyan's or Sternberger's.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 21:37But I just hate the receiver-only TE model for this offense. I hate it. Maybe I can sway you with a little Trevor Davis porn.
Doesn't really stop us from improving our WR room at all, and if anything a guy drawing attention from the D like this would only help it.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑25 Apr 2022 21:37I'd rather try to improve our WR room than bring in Waller. Maybe we can ship them Bobert t'Onion, who himself is a short-term rental (but for them, could stick around), and lower the asking price on the draft pick.
I could get behind that, theoretically.
But in actuality, no; Rodgers can't have nice things.
