Not all depth charts are the same. That situation will evolve of course. For example some have Watkins, Watson and Lazard starting and Cobb as #2 on the depth chart. Another one has Reed ahead of Wyatt. Interesting how people are ready to start Watson .......... I sure hope he's up to the challenge. Amari needs to step up pronto.

I admit I bought into the Amari pick. After watching him play I just don't see anything in him other than a fringe player. It would be an epic turnaround if he becomes relavant.

I admit I bought into the Amari pick. After watching him play I just don't see anything in him other than a fringe player. It would be an epic turnaround if he becomes relavant.

I agree with you, he has no speed of quickness. Problem is that Cobb has lost both also. I could see a surprise starter there too, and it would not surprise me if the Packers played 2 TE's a lot instead.

And how is Jaire not a starter at outside CB? Nickle? Seriously?

Nickel CB is nowadays a starting position... But yeah, interesting to see where Jaire lines up. He obviously can play anywhere, but Stokes and Rasul are probably best suited outside. That would place Jaire in the slot.

So far he’s disappointing but it’s still early. I wasn’t high on him out of the draft but I tried to trick myself into it. My initial report on him was how I feel about a lot of players billed to be a slot. You can’t be small and slow. I thought a 5th/6th. Now you can make up for that. Hunter Renfrow I was extremely high on and not to toot my own godlike horn but I was clearly right. What Renfrow lacked in speed and hand size was clear on the field. He has tremendous hands and route running ability that made up for his lack of ability to separate at an elite level.

Amari needs to drop weight. He’s too big for 5’9. He doesn’t have the hands of route running superiority to be what he is currently. I somewhat see the appeal. His route running is solid. His hands are average. In space he’s also just average. As a returner he is awful. He’s scared to catch the ball and looks scared trying to make moves in traffic as well.

Much like Adams, you can’t cut such an early pick so early. At the same time he doesn’t look promising early and my initial reaction that this was a massive reach is valid. I thought the Packers should have been looking for a legit #2 early and not a slot. You can find slots anywhere including your trash can.

Nickel CB is nowadays a starting position... But yeah, interesting to see where Jaire lines up. He obviously can play anywhere, but Stokes and Rasul are probably best suited outside. That would place Jaire in the slot.

So would you take Jaire off the field when the Packers are not in nickel? Not me. Would you match up the 5'10 Jaire against a 6'5" TE that outweighs him by 45 pounds? Not me. There are teams whose best receiver is a slot receiver and I understand letting Jaire play the slot then, but that is not the norm. You want your best DB on the other team's best receiver and that means that Jaire usually belongs outside.

Yeah, I think just about everyone agrees he was too thick last year. Hopefully it helps give him at least respectable movement skills because he looked to be running in cement last year. Can you imagine if they had taken him instead of Josh Myers in Round 2 like they said they were contemplating? There just has to be something they saw that we have not seen, yet. Not sure what that is, but I hope to God it's something.

Myers was a great pick. The Packers have 3 good preseason opponents and one of their tasks is to find out how much Ameri has improved. Hopefully a lot. But if he is as slow as he looked last season, he needs to spend the year on the PS and find a way to improve his speed. They can't keep a guy who can't play and cut a promising rookie, for example that RB from Iowa Goodson. He can't play RB in the NFL because he can't block but he was a good receiver as a RB and he is a lot faster than Rodgers.

The thing to me about Amari is that he's always been more of a manufactured touch guy. He needs to get the mental part down and have confidence in it so he can earn his way onto the field. Once he's on the field, I just want him to have a good feel for underneath zones, catch the ball, break some tackles, and let MLF put him in some creative spots. His blocking looked good, too, so he's got that aspect to build on. I'm not trying to analyze his body type or figure out the right weight; maybe you guys are onto something, I dunno. But from the sounds of it within the locker room, the issue is thinking too much slowing him down, not that he suddenly lost any and all burst and agility he had at Clemson (which admittedly was not elite burst and agility; but it was better than we saw from him in Green Bay).

A useful role player is a solid 3rd round pick. Let's hope the mental and emotional stuff clicks for him so he can earn that role. If not, though, we got us a nice underneath separator in the 7th this year.


Also, depth charts this time of year--ourlads, espn, even the team website--are outsiders guessing, not any sorting of the players by the coaches. A depth chart made by any of us is just as valid as one published on a website.

Herb Adderley was a running back. Willie Wood was a quarterback. Both ARE Pro Football Hall of Famers. Bob Jeter was a running back in college as well.

LOL. I just said pretty much the same thing on one of the other threads. Loving it. The other aspect, to me, is if Amari will finally hold onto the ball. He muffed it more times than I could count. And that won't fly in his second TC.

I can only recall two muffs by Rodgers, but just as concerning to me was how many times he failed to run up and catch the ball before it bounced.


Question for the experts: Does the NFL actually track muffs? (It's not the same as a fumble because possession was not achieved.)

Amari had rookie gray matter breakdown, the fumbled kicks are lack of concentration due to trying to think about what he'd due after the catch, the couple that he decided to take out that he caught at the goal line troubled me the most.

as to playing slot receiver, imho it's the toughest position of the 3 WR positions, the slot receiver has to read leverage of the DB, often that determines if he runs inside or outside of the DB, several times Amari got it right and got us first down yardgae, and looked quick doing it, I expect him to be better at everything this season.

Slot receiver is by far and away the easiest to play. Not even close.
