Only 3 players remain on the team from the 2019 class after only 1 made it through the 2018 class. 4/19 in those two years. And we wonder why STs struggles so badly.

Absolutely fair point when it comes to ST. Not even lack of investment having drafted two specialists, but definitely lack of results.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑28 Aug 2022 13:22Only 3 players remain on the team from the 2019 class after only 1 made it through the 2018 class. 4/19 in those two years. Crazy, cause 3 of those 4 are Jaire, Gary and Elgton, 3 franchise level players. Obviously wouldn’t trade them 30+ special teamers.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑28 Aug 2022 13:22Only 3 players remain on the team from the 2019 class after only 1 made it through the 2018 class. 4/19 in those two years. Not sure if we do a super boom or bust draft type strategy, but like Savage literally the only guy who didn’t boom or bust yet.

Would someone please explain why Gutey is held in such high esteem by some yet? Please ........ I beg some logic behind this situation. When did Gutey start and TT stop anyway?BF004 wrote: ↑28 Aug 2022 17:05Crazy, cause 3 of those 4 are Jaire, Gary and Elgton, 3 franchise level players. Gutey is held in high regard for the same reason TT was. Rodgers completely carries this team as far as they can go until he cant make up for their flaws anymore so the team finishes with a great record but struggles against the leagues better rosters. That applies to the coaches and the roster itself. As long as the team is successful people will not do a deep dive into where the team can improve. Ive said it many times. Packers fans are good enough with being good enough. In the business world or even the military, if you are stagnant you are moving backwards because you can damn well believe your competitors are trying to surpass you.RingoCStarrQB wrote: ↑28 Aug 2022 17:17Would someone please explain why Gutey is held in such high esteem by some yet? That said Gutey is lightyears better than TT. At the time of his firing TT was one of the worst GMs in football because he was not only drafting poorly but still never adjusted with the times of acquiring FAs even if it was for just a one year rental. On top of that his belief in signing his own guys
hindered is ability to see clearly like overpaying a slot WR or overpaying Nick Perry who never was able to stay 100%. Gutey on the other hand does target FAs and he hits huge on some draft picks. The problem is he doesnt hit consistently in the draft at all and he has made some absolute costly blunders in FA like Jimmy Graham, Billy Turner, and Kevin King. His resource allocation is also strange to me. He drafts Dillon early but resigns Jones to a big deal? He has some young developmental TEs but pays Mercedes Lewis more than any other team would have, this Im sure of.
To me the last straw for Gutey was taking Love. In my opinion you cant come back from that pick if he isnt at the very least a borderline hall of fame QB. Its a fireable offense. Even without hindsight the picks were very clear. The need at WR was a very real thing. The need at LB was a very real thing. The need at DT was a very real thing. And to prove the fact that it was we went two years of garbage at those 3 positions to heavily focus them this year.
I dont think for one second Gutey took a look inward that maybe Rodgers isnt the problem. Maybe its just the new system that needed more time and historically struggles year 1 and booms years 2 and onward. Maybe I shouldnt have cut Air Jordy, the flightest of the whitest, and given him a pay cut instead of massively overpaying for Jimmy Graham who was often injured and also in the twilight of is career. Maybe the crop of 3 WRs I took in 2018 are actually really not very good football players. Maybe I take Tee Higgins or Micael Pittman Jr knowing that my WR corp is absolute dog scheisse instead of trading up for what as ended up being an utterly useless backup QB who has diminished in own trade value with poor play in both the preseason and regular season.

Gutey is pretty good at most things related to being a GM outside of drafting beyond the top of the draft.
He would look worse as a GM and would have to be accountable for his failures in the draft if he had almost anyone else at QB. But Rodgers covers for those sins most of the time. Like its always been.

Packers are definitely last minute in announcing everything, but in the Twitter age, we get 95% of the story as the day goes on. I am not sure how it works, exactly, but I assume beat writers have direct contact with a lot of these players and some/most are willing to offer the details on if they were told they are safe or released.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑30 Aug 2022 07:38Aren’t the Packers historically kinda slow in announcing their names, too? Or has Twitter mostly eliminated that and I’m thinking more about the slow release of the PS roster?

Thank You, that settles it! I knew it, but couldn't recall when TT's moves ended and Gutey's moves began. The memories of Perry and Graham still sting. Time will tell with Love (I still have hope, but I doubt it will work out).lupedafiasco wrote: ↑28 Aug 2022 18:59Gutey is held in high regard for the same reason TT was. I'll be checking in at 2:45 p.m. Lombardi Time today. And likely be required to wait at least 15 minutes until the rest of the world catches up.NCF wrote: ↑30 Aug 2022 07:45Packers are definitely last minute in announcing everything, but in the Twitter age, we get 95% of the story as the day goes on.
