Tonyan is a Bear

IMO, Unfortunate. I don't see it mentioned anywhere and thought it deserves its own thread
I had a lot of hope for the guy, but his athletic ability just hasn't shown up the same way post-ACL. Some guys come back like nothing ever happened; some don't. Maybe another year of training and healing he'll get some juice back, but I'm not particularly concerned about letting this one walk.
The Packers seem to have not been lucky with the ACL's. Bakh took forever. Jenkins wasn't himself until late in the season.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023 13:51I had a lot of hope for the guy, but his athletic ability just hasn't shown up the same way post-ACL. Tonyan seemed to benefit from the defense losing him. 2020 had him wide open so often.
I disagree. Solid athlete (not elite, but good) before the injury, nice size, catches almost everything thrown his way. I think our TB playoff loss changes if 12 looks for him rather than force it to Adams who was double- and triple-covered all game. The next year he was forced into blocking more than receiving due to the patchwork OL, then injury.
I'am shocked we let him go, lots of players take a full season to gain the faith needed to make hard cuts after ACL surgery, and Bob was starting to get that faith back towards the end of the season.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023 13:51I had a lot of hope for the guy, but his athletic ability just hasn't shown up the same way post-ACL. I wasn't shocked we let him go, but I have to say I was surprised we let him walk away for that price. I would have been happy to give him another shot for $2.5 Million.Yoop wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023 15:15I'am shocked we let him go, lots of players take a full season to gain the faith needed to make hard cuts after ACL surgery, and Bob was starting to get that faith back towards the end of the season.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023 13:51I had a lot of hope for the guy, but his athletic ability just hasn't shown up the same way post-ACL. true he is not a gifted athlete in the sense we'd like to see at the position, but lewis tutorship on leverage helped Bob become a better blocker, imo he'll be a better player this year then he was last, how much better????
to me this is a sign that we are going to draft a TE, maybe even 1st or 2nd round
I assumed they were going to let him walk going into FA but I thought his price would be higher. At that price I'm more surprised they didn't keep him, but I think they are looking for more athleticism. Great draft class for that.go pak go wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023 15:28I wasn't shocked we let him go, but I have to say I was surprised we let him walk away for that price. Man I was about to say this post was spot on, then you had to add that last sentence, which completely ruined a good post.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023 17:56Tonyan was a pretty average TE. He was in year 5 and just never developed a full game. He was useful as a pass catcher but a pretty weak blocker which makes sense given the lack of experience.
The ACL injury was unfortunate but that season he played in 8 games and had just 18 catches and 2 TDs in a Rodgers MVP season.
Deguara is going into year 4 and his ACL injury is far behind him. I still think it was a huge reach in the draft but he’s in the year where TEs start putting it together. On top of that theres opportunity now that we got rid of the inept Mercedes Lewis.
Truth hurts. I mean if Lewis was so good wheres his new team?Packfntk wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023 07:13Man I was about to say this post was spot on, then you had to add that last sentence, which completely ruined a good post.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023 17:56Tonyan was a pretty average TE. He'll go to the Jets as soon as AR does.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023 07:15Truth hurts. Cuz we got ‘lil big dawg, Darnell Washington, visiting GB today.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023 07:15Truth hurts. I’m convinced the Packers are going to dry and get Washington. He’s a young Lewis all the way. I just think Washington might guy late 1st early 2nd. I think teams will like him better than Musgrave or Kincaid. I personally like him better than Mayer too.BF004 wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023 08:40Cuz we got ‘lil big dawg, Darnell Washington, visiting GB today.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023 07:15Truth hurts. Because at this point he is strictly a blocking TE. I believe there have been opportunities, but he is being selective on situation. I get it, he is a soon to be 39 blocking TE. But he is still very good at his craft. Yeah, and AR will bring him to NYJ.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023 07:15Truth hurts. I don’t care how good he is at his craft if the other part of his game is nonexistent. We tip our hand every time he walked in the field.Packfntk wrote: ↑21 Mar 2023 11:24Because at this point he is strictly a blocking TE. This is supposed to be a good TE draft so hopefully we can get an upgrade there and let him develop with Love.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑20 Mar 2023 14:59The problem now is that Davis, Deguara and a rookie is not inspiring. Rookies have to either learn to block or run routes, very few do both in college
