I’m going Nolan smith and Darnell Wright
The more I look through draft prospects, the more drawn to Wright I’m getting. There really aren’t very many big strong OTs with mauler mentalities and enough athleticism to play in a zone scheme.

Keisean Nixon wants Nolan Smith.
So do I.
So should you

If I wasn't sold on Nolan Smith before (I largely already was), Andy Herman's video did it for me. Your scheme may not call for a Hasson Reddick, but if given a guy like that, you find a use for him, knowing the payoff (big plays) is well worth whatever adjustments you need to make. Give me this guy all day.

Still Smith for me with the 2 CBs next.

Honestly, I would be so upset if we drafted a CB in round one, but Gonzales is the type of dude that I'd talk myself into real quickly because he's just so good.
I'd be like "wait, can Stokes play safety now?"

Blogger Andy gives some nice breakdowns of some of these top candidates. Simply informative and not biased, good listens.

Podster Andy seems to like both Smith and LVN, for me Smith is a exception to the rule for a 34 edge rusher, yes he has a great Ras score, but just a bit short and very light and with a build not conducive to packing on 10 lbs,
this will most likely be P. Smiths last season with us, so we should try and replace his size, and either of Murphy or LVN more fits that mold only more athletic, at 15 I think I'd be happy with either one.

Smith is a strong dude. Him having to gain 10 lbs for me isn't a concern. He was one of the best against the run last year with over 90 pff (yea I know pff).
I like van Ness at some point don't get me wrong but I've said it a ton he is not a top 25 player. I think he will be a solid pro someday but he has a ton of work to do. He lived on beating guards and centers with speed on the outside against future pro tackles he got buried.
Again I think he can become solid and with the athletic skills he will be fine but smith is a freaking good football player. He's got the tools and is good at his craft.

I know I love his athleticism, and normally I like the combo of a bigger DE type like Gary and then a OLB like Clay Mathews, that versatility is intriguing, but just my opinion here, he doesn't have the build to pack additional weight as Clay had, imho he is a ILB that Georgia used as a edge rusher, he is better against the run then a rusher, so what happens if he struggles against the NFL O lines, we took Walker to be our off ball defender/chaser, the comparisons to Riddick though can't be over looked, as Herman said, he looks like a safety with a 7 course meal
I know you go deeper then I do with these investigation BP4Eever, so if you think I'am over thinking this a bit OK, whatever, I think we should go edge rusher though if one of the top 5 are available.
if ya can't pressure the QB your toast more now imo then ever before, look what happen to our defense once we lost Gary last year, we can't allow that again this year.

I don't think you are overthinking it at all. It's a legit concern and there is a reason no edge rusher last season was under 240. He is an outlier to the norm for sure but then you see the skill set and the success a guy like Riddick has had the last 3 seasons and I am all in if he's there at 15.
GB has stuck to the bigger edges but adding a different style that can move around like Walker late last year really makes this d fun.
Smith can't wait to hunt QBs. He didn't get those chances in college. In the NFL he's going to be a menace....... Hopefully in a Packer uniform
