Willie made All Pro 9 times. As did Forrest Gregg.

The plain fact is that until the league allows 3 digit numbers, none should be retired. And that includes #12.

With an old and storied franchise you can't retire all the numbers that deserve the honor. But I think you could create a system where the number is retired for the life of the player plus 10-25 years. You can have a big ceremony honoring the Man and the Number when the # is reinstated. That way people might learn about Canadeo, or Hutson rather than them being just names that no one still alive has seen play. Legends Day or something to that effect. Certainly AR deserves 12 to be retired.

The only way to honor all of the greats on the Packers teams of yore is by retiring numbers. All numbers.

We can use letters and symbols to identify players instead.

"There's Jordan Love, wearing number π, scanning the field. He takes the snap from center Roman numeral C and drops back to pass. Great block by LT sadface emoji and Love finds his target! What a catch by #! Nice blocking by his fellow wide receivers @ and YAC, leading to extra yards! The extra point by the Prince symbol is no good. The snap from pentagram to $ was too high!"

# will be a problem

"What a terrible penalty by pound sign!"
"What? It was holding on hash tag."
"No, pound sign."
"What the heck is a pound sign?"
"You darn kids, get off my lawn...er...out of my living room!"

Letters would work with the exception of I and O.

Lets start with Love. JL. Might not want to use initials for Bo Melton though.
