Very happy to see TE Austin Allen back in the fold
couple of practice squad notes from Justis Mosqueda
"As a reminder, the Packers will have 16 practice squad spots available this season, plus an international player exemption — as long as outside linebacker Kenneth Odumegwu of Nigeria passes through waivers and re-signs with the team. Odumegwu is essentially a free roll for Green Bay’s practice squad.
There are some conditions that are important to remember for these practice squad signings. Out of the possible 16 players, at least 10 of them must have played nine or fewer games in their NFL careers. No more than six players on the practice squad are allowed to have played more than two accrued seasons in the NFL, but the team is allowed two more players who have accrued one or two seasons in the league."
Four players can be protected each week, so they can’t be signed by another team off their practice squad. However, any unprotected player may be signed to a 53 man roster at any time.

TE Ben Sims
draftbuzz:
https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Ben-Sims-TE-Baylor
From Brugler:
SUMMARY:Although he builds his speed and lacks dynamic separation qualities, Sims is controlled within his routes to leverage in-breakers and make himself available to his quarterback. He has a sturdy base in pass protection but struggles to uncoil inline, and he is still learning how to properly use his hands/reach to fit and control his man in the run game. Overall, Sims is a balanced athlete with steady hands, but he isn’t a threat after the catch and needs to turn his losses into stalemates as an NFL blocker.
GRADE: Priority Free Agent

New Safety Zayne Anderson
Anderson went undrafted out of BYU in 2021. He spent two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, playing 110 special teams snaps over seven games. The Bills signed Anderson in February. He made three special teams tackles for the Bills over three preseason games but was cut on Tuesday. The Packers kept five safeties on the 53-man roster but may want more depth considering Dallin Leavitt is a special teams only player and Anthony Johnson Jr. is a rookie.

This is kind of weird, IMO. Packers had like 8 picks in the 6th and 7th, seems like they could have had him if they liked him that much.
Wonder if the Packers were the counter party bidding for his services that forced MN to offer100K to get him as an UDRFA.
Seems weird that wouldn't be MN's responsibility, would have thought that was like a signing bonus, but I guess through a waiver claim, we are taking on all the contract. Just would have thought that was already paid I guess.

Agreed.
Although GB had already spent (2) high picks on TEs so maybe they wanted to stock other positions ?
Gute comment:
— On rookie tight end Ben Sims, who was claimed Wednesday: Had top 30 visit to Green Bay pre-draft. Still needs to pass physical.
“Big athlete who can run really fast.” Said he really improved over final three weeks with Vikings.

So what does that get him? 9 guaranteed weeks on the PS.

Looks like we have 16 guys signed to the PS including the international guy which I BELIEVE doesn’t count against the maximum numbers.
But that means if Carpenter and Ford clear waivers tomorrow and the team wants them back, someone who just signed to the PS will be released again.

That would just be cruel...so I guess we are only getting (1) more player on PS and I'd lean Jonathan Ford given the Planet Theory
(Odumegwu doesn't count)
