APB’s Packers-Steelers Gameday Experience

I split this response from another topic to provide some visibility of the game day experience summary. Enjoy!
Drove up from Virginia on Saturday with three Steeler fan friends, got to a very nice AB&B about 15 min from downtown by late afternoon. Grabbed a quick bite, pre-lubed, and off to the Penguins-Sabres hockey game. Pens dominated 4-0, saw Crosby score a goal and Jarry notch the shutout.
Afterward it was off to the original Primanti Bros for one of their famous sandwiches. Every bit as good as you’ve heard.
Gameday we hit the lot around 10am and PARTIED! Lot of Packer fans about and a great tailgate scene. Food, beers, cocktails, great football comradeship with the Steeler fan base, more food, more beer, and then off to the game.
Upper level, 2nd row seats. Beautiful fall weather day!
The wind wasn’t nearly as bad as what television was making it out to be, or so I’ve since heard. Crowd was fun and friendly toward the Packer fans. Great views throughout the stadium. The Steeler announcer/PR team do a GREAT job with firing up the crowd. Music playlist, first down celebrations, pleas to make noise while on defense, and adrenaline pumping crowd traditions. They do this thing during changeover from third/fourth quarter commercial break playing Styx’s Renegade song including the “heartbeat” thumping beginning and the crowd got obnoxiously loud and fired up. I’m sure when the television coverage returned, you could hear the crowd roaring. Towels waving everywhere. There were a few times when “Go Pack Go” chants started but were quickly drowned out by boos or crowd noise. Their fans were having none of it.
Was a great game to watch live with the back and forth. Our run defense sucked so bad their fans were laughing. Love made some great throws that made them eat some words. He then made the poor decision on the first INT that brought out more of the ridicule. The last drive I was up and hollering my ass off about “Here it comes, boys! Here it comes! Packer Victory incoming! Brace yourselves” Had the Packers actually pulled it off, pretty sure I was getting my ass beat. Anyway, Love tosses the second INT and the crowd exploded. The crowd in my section gave it to me initially but were overall gracious in victory. Good fan experience overall.
Probably my favorite venue experience outside of Lambeau. Been to old Cowboys stadium, Washington’s FedEx (worst), Carolina, Atlanta, and Tampa.
It was a great trip.LombardiTime wrote: ↑14 Nov 2023 21:47I feel bad for you, I really do.
My Steeler-fan friends were sincerely mad at me for the Packers making Matt Canada look like a competent OC by doing nothing more than running the ball into light boxes.
Can't imagine how frustrating that must have been in person.
That said, it looked like a beautiful day in Pittsburgh, so hope you enjoyed your trip!
