They're going to get rid of it after this league...

banned maneuver
I still hate that play. Any assistance from behind the LOS should be an automatic 15 yard penalty. I get that policing "assistance" down field when you have blockers coming from behind is difficult. Are the pushing player or defender or both? But when you have 2-3 guys behind the QB to aid the runner behind the LOS?
WIth the other rules they have to benefit the offense, I think it's BS they allow this. and if they want to, fine. Then make them declare and no play can be run outside the tackle box. But i'm in favor of 15 yard penalties for assisting a player behind the LOS.

Cheese press!
Should be flagged as assisting the runner.

I do like Love Shove. Nice continuation from Brotherly Shove.
Lambeau Sneak
Bum Rush
ASSisting the runner

And yes, ban the play. But while it's not, glad LaFleur is taking an advantage of being able to run it.

Yup. The play should be banned. The QB sneak is fine but the pushing of the QB I thought was always illegal. Why is it legal now?
But the Lambeau Sneak has a nice ring to it.

In the NFL it isn't nor has it been a penalty to PUSH the runner. Assisting the runner only applies to pulling or carrying the ball carrier. So by the letter of the law the Brotherly Shove, Love Shove, and/or Tush Push is legal.

interesting.
And why did it take 100 years for it to be popular? Is it because our QBs (especially Hurts) have stronger legs to hold up the push and not fall down?

I'm pretty sure in my younger years aiding a runner pushing or pulling was in fact a penalty. It's why in Starr's famous Ice Bowl plunge someone is showing his hands to show he's NOT pushing him. He's not signaling a TD.
Apparently they changed it sometime in the past 15 years or so that you can push, you just can't pull a ball carrier. I missed that one. So yes it is legal, but considering all the benefits of rules the offense has, I hate this play more than any other I think. In the spirit of competition, it's BS if you ask me.

For some reason, I can't get passionate about this one. 4th-and-1 probably shouldn't be that easy, so I get not liking it, but the existence of this play does not really bother me, either.
I can't really find it in me to care if they ban it or keep it.

So I was wrong about it not being a thing in the past. The rule changed in 2005.

Ya, it's a non-issue to me as well. It should be an non-issue for the olds as well. It's the old smashmouth football they know and love.

The fact that it's always been legal changes my mind. Pckfn23 changed my viewpoint.

times change thats for sure, if Starr had been pushed in the ice Bowl it would have been penalized, I want to see where that stuff was legal back then.
problem I see is it is to difficult to officiate and that is the only reason something hasn't been done already to stop it, teams push the envelope concerning the rules until the nfl finally figures out how to stop it, I don't see this crap going on much longer.

Not always, I was wrong there, since 2005.

I think the Eagles are just really good at doing it, why no one else has done this in 18 years.
Hurts has some tree trunks and Kelce is the best center in the league.
Other teams try it and are no where near as successful.
Eagles are simply better, no reason to change any rules around it I don't think. Not sure why the rule was changed in 2005, would like to hear the for and against arguments then. But I wouldn't change it now just because 1 team and only 1 team has exceptional personnel and execution to take advantage of it.

What I'm hearing is we need to put have AJ Dillon take the snap.

And if you're gonna ban the play, does that mean all assisted run plays where a runner is pushed forward in a scrum are penalized, too?
That's another can-of-worms I'd just as soon avoid. Seems the only thing you'd accomplish is adding future grievances with officiating when you're forcing yet another judgment call for an already inept officiating crew to judge.
It's an effective play if you can master it. I see no reason to ban it simply because one team is better at executing it than all others.
