AJ Dillon Returns to GB

Post by Drj820 »

I kinda saw this coming the longer he had no interest

He left on good terms, Gute drafted him, he can pass block, we need a RB 2/3, and he’s probably cheap.

Deal is pending physical

I mean he’s def better than manny Wilson, and this draft class of RBs is supposedly historically weak. So if it’s a minimum deal, why not?

Good guy, solid all around player, loved by the community and he loves it right back.

Assuming his contract doesn’t break the bank, I have no complaints.

Welcome back, AJ!

From a personal standpoint I absolutely love AJ Dillon.

From a player standpoint you can absolutely improve. But as a cheap 2nd/3rd RB I have no issue with him being in GB on a small deal.

Welcome back AJ.

Nice to have a cheap bit of offense. There were times where he was a strong net plus, not often, but there were times. Cool guy. GB has had a run of cool guys at RB.

Cheap, knowledgeable backup. Could still surprise, but hopefully gets gradually relegated to #3 spot behind a 2024 day 2 guy.

Hopefully this means they will use him more in an I formation. He's a much better back when Love is under center.

Err, ... okay. I guess he can be a nice third-down RB for us. He is a solid blocker and receiver.

If he only counts basically vet min on the cap and no guarantee if we want to move on after TC, not issues here.

Yeah the minimum cap hit is what makes this absolutely fine. He costs no more than anyone else and he’s a great locker room guy. He’ll have to compete for his job like everyone else

It’s an old rule change from probably around the mid-00s where role-playing veterans were struggling to find jobs because their minimum salary increased with years of service and so they cost more against the cap than younger veterans.

So they came up with the only rule in the cap in which money is paid to a player that doesn’t count against the cap. The minimum salary increases with tenure, but the cap charge essentially pauses at year 4 levels

Very poor job explaining the why and how from blogger Andy.

AJ is a good guy. I hope his deal is basically guaranteed, because I hope he would be able to at least be somewhere he can make the roster. He wasn’t worth a second round pick, he was certainly not awful ha. He can do a lot of things better than very bottom of the roster backs…like catch and block

It boils down to being able to pay him more money without it impacting his cap charge. Assuming he gets the max allowable and he makes the roster, he’ll count only vet minimum (roughly half the amount he’s actually being paid) against the cap.

It benefits both him and the team, assuming his market was relatively weak.

AJ is only 24. If he locks in, gets off FarmVille, reduces his squats, and works on explosion drills…he can have a nice year for us, help us for the cheap, AND get himself paid as a 25 year old somewhere else
