In a two-minute drill, Love also threw a 47-yarder to receiver Christian Watson that was capped off with a 10-yard touchdown to receiver Romeo Doubs, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. Despite the offense’s early struggles, the defense had to do pushups to end practice, as the offense won its first “win” of training camp.

As far as lineups go, Doubs and receiver Dontayvion Wicks got the starting nods at receiver with the first team today. For the most part, the Packers have been using Doubs, Wicks, Watson and Jayden Reed in a four-man rotation in the unit. The group is still more of a committee than anything.

According to Andy Herman of Packer Report, the starters in team drills were Rasheed Walker, Sean Rhyan, Elgton Jenkins, Jorgan Morgan and Kadeem Telfort (left to right) with Tom and Myers out. Telfort rotated in and out with Andre Dillard at right tackle, though, and Rhyan even saw a few reps as an emergency center, per Packers.com’s Mike Spofford.

In two tight end looks, second-year players Luke Musgrave and Ben Sims were the first to see the field, but veteran Tyler Davis also worked in the rotation, too. Mind you, this is all with Kraft still sidelined.

Wood also pointed out that while the team initially said they were going to give Morgan looks at left tackle, because it’s the position the first-round rookie played at the college level, all of his snaps in camp so far have come at the guard position.

If you were hoping for better quarterback play from the backups today, here’s the disappointment: They are who they are. Sean Clifford was intercepted by linebacker Aaron Mosby on the second team while fourth-stringer Jacob Eason threw a pick-six to rookie safety Javon Bullard. With Love back in practice, you have to wonder just how long the Packers are going to keep four quarterbacks on their roster, meaning that Eason’s days could be limited.

Speaking of Bullard, it was his turn to “start” with the first-team defense today, as Green Bay has been rotating between him, Anthony Johnson Jr. and fellow rookie Evan Williams opposite of Xavier McKinney throughout camp. Bullard seems to be impressing the most, but Johnson and Williams have also made their fair share of plays this summer.

The locked-in starters on the defensive side of the ball appear to be defensive end Rashan Gary, defensive end Preston Smith, defensive tackle Kenny Clark, linebacker Quay Walker, cornerback Jaire Alexander, cornerback Eric Stokes and McKinney. Those players are hardly being rotated out of the “starting” look with the first-team defense, if ever. The spots open appear to be the second defensive tackle spot, a competition between T.J. Slaton and Devonte Wyatt, the non-Walker linebacker spots, a competition between Edgerrin Cooper, Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson, and the safety spot opposite of McKinney. The biggest surprise here is probably that Stokes’ position in the starting lineup isn’t being pressed by Carrington Valentine, the 22-year-old who started 12 games for the Packers last season and recorded 695 defensive snaps as a rookie.

With pads on, the intensity revved up in practice today. Nickel corner Keisean Nixon went at Wicks during the first team period, per Wood, while Mosby and rookie tackle Travis Glover butted heads later on in practice, per Herman. The defense has won the first four-and-a-half practices of this five-day training camp so far, though, so it was about time for the offense to get in their heads. Hopefully, they get it out of their system before the Packers start joint practices with other clubs in the preseason.

Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph, who have both made 11 of 12 field goal attempts in camp, did not kick today. Instead, it was another opportunity for rookie James Turner to show the team what he has to offer. Turner is consistently hitting two-thirds of his field goals, though, as he went 4-of-6 on the day to bring his summer total to 12-of-18. He’s finished all three days that he’s kicked 4-of-6. At this point, it’s fair to say that he’s currently the third kicker in his competition.

A player who seems to be breaking out this week is seventh-round rookie cornerback Kalen King, a former All-American via Penn State. King has been receiving work as a slot cornerback recently and was able to pick off Jordan Love for a pick-six while lining up for the first-team defense. He also broke up a pass later in practice. Keisean Nixon’s starting slot job seems to safe, but at this point it would be a surprise if King wasn’t the next man up in the slot — which would go a long way to solidify him a job on the 53-man roster.

Running with the No. 1 defense for quite possibly the first time, King got his first interception of training camp against Jordan Love.
Lined up in the slot, the rookie seventh-round pick stepped in front of a third-and-4 pass intended for receiver Christian Watson and turned up field for a possible pick-six.

King, who's been working at both outside and nickel cornerback, couldn't remember if Sunday was the first time he received snaps with the No. 1 defense, but it definitely was among the "first couple."
"It was a Cover-2 call … and I'm really just working to my landmark and just reading Jordan," King said. "Wherever his eyes go, that's where I flow to. I felt quick game, so as soon as I saw him take his hand off the ball, I just broke, and I was there to make a play."

The play provided a boost of confidence for King, who used the momentum to quickly trigger on two other pass breakups, including a near-INT during the third units' two-minute series towards the end of practice.

This is the first time the two-time All-Big Ten selection has played in the slot, but King feels he's picking it up well thanks in part to starting nickel Keisean Nixon. Regardless of whether he's lined up inside or outside, King knows a big play can go a long way in a deep and talented secondary.

"It only gives me confidence," King said. "Just me coming in every day, competing with the guys, competing with the vets that are on the team and making plays against them gives me confidence to keep going, keep my head down and keep working."

Its early, but it would be great news IF King can earn a spot as back-up slot behind Nixon.
