Have An Idea For Ya

While I know this is a gathering place for fervent and knowledgeable fans from many generations (I was born in Green Bay in 1971, dyed in the wool), have to air this question.

In your heart of hearts, can you really admit to yourselves this franchise has the compass to get to another Super Bowl with its current leadership? Most important thing is eliminate all the shouting voices of the media proclaiming the “brilliant concept of draft and develop”, spiking the football after a 34-0 Saints victory, making every tiny competent play on either side of the ball sound like it was Herculean and worthy of a $3 million/year jump in pay.

Back when guys just played football, those were routine plays. It’s called a “tackle.” Congrats, it is what you are paid for. Without showboating, hustle back to the huddle and do it again.

I should put a poll up above to measure who in their hearts actually believes this team, with its current leadership, its pedigree - no matter where we replenish the roster, mingle with it - can advance to a Super Bowl. It’s easy to say. Only two out of 32 teams can navigate a whole season of bad/good luck, injuries, etc, etc. Your offensive coordinator’s son who evaded a rape charge in high school may fall through the ice in his first year of college while you are three games away from a perfect season.

It’s unpredictable.

So I’d be interested to hear why or why not you believe this team is going to advance beyond the Wild Card round. Because they aren’t, and that begins from the top.

If you predict the Packers won't win the Superbowl, you will be right over 95% of the time.

Congratulations.

I don’t understand what it is you are trying to get at. If you think the leadership of the team will never lead the team to a Super Bowl, then provide your actual reasoning for this. What you state here is pretty much true for every team. Just so you know, I am also very old school and I detest the self-glorification of players making the plays they are paid to make.

I’ll bet you said the same thing last year at about this same time.

no one knew what to expect when my/our team hired this coach from Jersey in 1959 either, no one sees a star till after they become one, and Lafleur has one of the best win/loss records since he's been our HC.

this is the youngest team in the league, and that's what the most obvious thing about all of this to me, we see errors common with inexperienced players.

your opinion is that we won't win even one PO game, got it, and you may be right, most of us disagree, and that's why people bet on games, it's why people watch games, the competition is what draws the crowds, if everyone knew the outcome prior, sports wouldn't exist.

you came to troll on our HC and staff, get in line, others here are way ahead of you

I'm expecting a breakout playoff game vs. Philly similar to what we saw in Dallas last year.
For now I'm taking 1 game at a time always hoping LaCoach can go on a hot streak.

You genuinely believe that this team is so poor that, even with all unpredictability of the opponents having bad luck / injury / other problems, there is no way we can beat them? Silly idea. Teams at 10-5 can, with a fair wind, win the lot.

Sigh. If you think the Packers don't have the right leadership, then who does?

Any team is capable of making it to the Super Bowl. It depends on a lot more than great leadership. Most teams have fairly good leadership or they wouldn't still be playing. But every game and every season is different. Sometimes you get a player that somehow, just all of sudden "gets it". Some here will understand that. Sometimes things just work out against your team, like injuries. And sometimes the leadership is lucky enough to bring in the right players to fill those spots. And sometimes the ball just bounces your way during the season.

As to the draft and develop idea. I think it's overblown. Are there players that could use a year to get it together? I'm sure there are. But then, why did they get drafted? In very few professions are you hired and get developed over a period of time. The biggest problem to me is Coaches trying to fit players into their vision of what the coach's offense or defense wants as opposed to designing an offense or defense to play to their player's greatest strengths.

This team is certainly capable of winning the Super Bowl. As is any team in the playoffs. At this point, the leadership question is off the board. It's up to the players to execute.

Right, because OMG, someone questions the Packer organization. You aren't suppose to do that.

Raptorman, these comments go against most draft or hiring situations, in both cases the basic skill set needs improving, as well as the mental aspects, owners hire workers all the time that still need teaching to perform company tasks, it's the same with sports, specially IMO the NFL, these are the cream of the crop players from college, yet the jump to the NFL is so wide most need at least one season to acclimate to this level of the sport, often even more. :aok:

that's not just what the OP said though, condemnation prior to event, when this team has upset higher ranked teams in the past is speculative at best, and doom looming at worst, basically Whiskey wanted us to agree that this fo group and coaches are incapable of winning the big game, and NO ONE knows that

All I will say is that we were in a damn good position last season. Consensus opinion was that we were one of the few teams that would be able to compete at the highest level throughout the next 5 years. Young talent, ascending QB. But that achillles heel was the discipline. We committed stupid penalties. Quay and his unsportsmanlikes. Blown assignments. Too often in the most critical moments. It's fine to give LaFleur the benefit of the doubt. At some point you need to hold him accountable. I am still in "benefit of the doubt" mode with him. But he is on a short leash.
