Not mad about this. Wasn't McDuffie a regular on ST, as well?

No issue with this one. He's not a game changer, he's not paid like one. He's a guy all teams need to fill out a roster. Solid at best, dependable and in the grand scheme of things worth it for a guy with his experience for the money.

I like McDuffie for what he is but I don't see much point in paying more than vet minimum for a LB who's not an every down guy. If he got more elsewhere than just sign another Eric Wilson type for the minimum and keep going. Gonna give this a D, sadly.

$4M is a bargain for a valuable role player. As long as they still have a plan for him, whether as a part-time defender or even just ST, this is the kind of veteran we will be screaming for a few months from now. I'm guessing the guarantees will only be pertinent for 2025, anyway, so it is really a one-year deal with team option. That's fine with me. It's not an A grade or anything, but I have no qualms with. Solid B.

I agree to a point, but 4M isn't a lot by today's standards and I think they keep a couple of these type deals around for these types of players to keep those guys fighting hard for playing time and roster spots. They can be rewarded, just not handsomely. Keeps that level of players competitive without really affecting our big picture cap wise.

C. Only reason being is they should be looking to swing for an upgrade at base LB and this just maintains status quo for a position that outside of Cooper is pretty weak. Status quo isn’t terrible but it is t an upgrade either and for more money than a season ago.

I think they can still do that via The Draft.

Meh - don’t hate it but was hoping for an upgrade. Dre Greenlaw particularly.

I get that. Just saying we know McDuffie is just a guy so why not swing for someone else losing a guy. I’d rather swing for the potential to have a Campbell or Baun type of player who didn’t fit their old system. We just know what McDuffie is for this defense.

I don't think off ball LBer is a position we can afford to spend too much on.

I do agree. Underwhelmed by this. I don't you can do much worse than McDuffie, like Hopper for instance, lol. But you also know what the ceiling is gunna be with McDuffie, which is low. I would rather, yeah, take a guy who didn't fit in his last scheme well, or was on someone's PS last year, but take a chance to get something higher, even if its possible you might end up worse off. But at least you could save $3M a year.

Yeah, like do a rinse and repeat of the De'Vondre Campbell signing only with the foresight to know he's a one-year-wonder after being selected All-Pro in the year he plays for the Packers but, despite that, then NOT sign him to a long term deal.

Obviously it’s unlikely. I’m not trying to say it’s easy to find but I’d rather try something where the result is unknown instead of taking a known average to below average player.

Dude plays his a$$ off. Love his mentality. Also has had games where he just popped such as the Miami game last year.

Don't hate the signing. Surprised for sure but don't hate it.

One thing not getting much attention in all this is that last year’s R3 LB draft pick is apparently not ready for the big stage.

Ty’ron Hopper was the supposed solution to the expiring LB contracts this year. Now we see Gutekunst signing McDuffie to an extension. So what’s that say about confidence in Hopper?
