This, I like. Surprised there wasn’t more buzz around him.

pretty clear this guy is our new nickel CB. Going to be interesting to see what they do with Bullard.

I know he's had health issues but the dude can play when he's out there. 4 yrs/$48m is a palatable contract, too.

:aok:

I really like this signing. I think finding a good nickle is one of the oddly toughest positions to fill. You just need to have such a broad range of skills.

You need to have fluid hips as you don't have the boundary to help you.
You need to be able to cover tight ends, big slots, and small/shifty slots.
You need to support in the run game.
You need to effectively blitz the quarterback.

So he's already ahead of Stokes for career PBUs...

Really like this move. Health will be key but keep ja and fix that mess. Hobbs in the slot and Bullard backing him is nice.

I am seeing a lot of comparisons on X to when the Packers let Casey Hayward walk.

Young, ascending player coming off rookie deal who excelled in slot coverage but had the tools to play outside. Fans felt he was mis-utilized. Some injury concerns. Plays with a dawg mentality.

If this turns out to be a Casey Hayward type signing, I’ll be nothing but pleased.

This is an easy A grade signing. Probably one of the best tackling CBs in the. Might be Jalen Ramsey and then him. When it come to any type of screen or play into the flats this guys gets all over it. Pretty good punch too.

Looks like going back to his college days he started out as a slot DB and really excelled before getting pushed outside and struggling. Raiders kept him as their nickel and he excelled. I doubt think we plan to play him outside. I think you waste what a great run defender he is at DB by playing him on the boundary.

I agree his primary and best position is slot. I do think, though, he can play outside if you need him to and with proper coaching. He’s got the physical traits, he just hasn’t developed fully as an outside defender.

Ryan Woods is reporting that the plan is to play Hobbs on the outside, not the slot.

Al Harris was a just a nickel back...

I think this kid has what it takes. Certainly passes the eye test for me.

wtf. Why is there an obsession in getting these guys on the outside when slot is tougher?

I swear it's tougher to find a slot corner. Also makes me question Alexander again as there would be too many cooks in the kitchen.

First, I don’t think Hafley has determined Hobbs’ full role yet, let alone shared his plan with a fringe reporter like Woods. Second, I don’t think his position will be absolute. There will be some play in the slot and other plays outside. If Hafley has shown anything, it’s his willingness to mix up his coverages to confuse the opposing offense.
