Here's how this works:

Each day there is a new thread/poll, starting at #1, on down to whereever we get. The whole point of this exercise is to have something to talk about in the lean news months to carry us to camp. Each poll will be open for voting for 24 hours. New threads will only be created on weekdays. Ties will cause a runoff poll.

Simply voting is not enough!

Post why you voted for who you did and provide a player to add to the next poll (every poll will be a list of 10 guys, a new player is added to the list each day).

Here's the thing. There is no criteria. This is an exercise to foster discussion therefore there are no clear criteria for ranking. Who is better right now? Who will have the best season? Who was better last year? Sort of a combo of them all? Do you take positional value into account? It really doesn't matter.

Sticking with Love here. Gotta get the backup QB and our #1 pick up there eventually. I think he beats Boyle easy.

Backup QBs often have gone by this point in the poll.

Love has had no in person technique work or practice at NFL speed to get accustomed to. He was drafted for year 3-4 and beyond, not for year 1. There is no need or rush to get him on the field and there is no way he would be ready to do so from a technique and experience point given his pedigree (coming from Utah St) and this wonky offseason.

It's been well-reported that Craig Nall played better than Aaron Rodgers in Rodgers' first preseason. Obviously, we had a plan for Rodgers and we decided not to keep Nall around in that instance, but the premise that Love should "easily beat out" the guy who's been doing this for 2 years and knows the system and staff seems like a longshot at best with such limited time on the field.

Also, Rodgers came in as a backup in his rookie year and took 3 sacks, threw an INT, lost 2 fumbles, and broke his foot. If a rookie isn't ready, the rookie isn't ready.

I just can't look at it this way. My vote for Love extends the boundaries of the 2020 season. It also reconciles the fact that Jordan Love is far more talented and the literal poster boy for the future while Boyle is by every measure of the phrase, just a guy. You kind of said it yourself the Craig Nall example.

I guess for me, I don't care if Boyle is the #2 all season and is more ready to play, right now. Jordan Love is a better QB, even if I have to qualify that with "currently, he is a better prospect to be a better QB".

Yes, that is a perspective. Given Waldo's "there are no rules" rankings, it is one that makes perfect sense. I, however, prefer to think of each year's rank-the-roster exercise as a ranking of importance or impact in the coming year, and so I dismiss future years, hence not voting for roster-lock rookies who I think will have minimal roles this year.

Love will be about as successful as Kizer if they do not iron out the flaws of his game before trotting him out there. He's in a good situation but this is RtR *2020* and this year is not his time. Regardless, he will (hopefully) not see the field in any meaningful capacity this year, either.

If we insist on making it a battle of the backup QBs, I vote Boyle.

I like Ervin here for his return ability and gadget RB.

I went Ervin. As the main returner on kicks and punts he is going to have an impact on the season. I’m really not understanding the Love votes over people who are actually going to impact the season.

Love hasn’t played a snap, has to learn a brand new system in what seems to be a different offseason, and he isn’t ready to play.

Sticking with Ervin. I'll vote back up QB somewhere around 40.

IMO Runyan will be starting this year, with or without an injury from the September starters at guard or tackle.

I do not see anyone else on this list that will be a full time starter baring injury from someone else. If we can be valuing Love for his 2021/22 season potential, we ought to value Runyan even more for his October/November potential.

I could have just lombardi'd your post but I felt like it was good enough to repeat. I'm VERY excited to have Runyan in 2021 and beyond. I am not certain we'll remember he's on the team in 2020

Except for Tyler Ervin as a kick returner and maybe gunner, I don't think there is anyone on this list more likely to be remembered for 2020.

Turner needs to be upgraded, money or not. I fear Wagner will be the OT version of Turner. Although 30 is not old at OG, Taylor is unlikely to improve and is already on the downside of his career. Patrick is first and foremost the backup canter to Linsley who is unlikely to be affordable to keep after this season. And hopefully the Packers coaching learned their less on with Jenkins - if a rookie is better than a veteran, don't start the veteran.
