Fiasco Mock Draft .65
Posted: 23 Nov 2020 14:49
Tough offseason coming up. Lots of hard decisions to be made do to poor cap management and use of draft capital. That said I believe this team wins a playoff game round 1 but loses in round 2 ending up with the 27th pick in this version.
Losses:
Corey Linsley- Its hard to pay everyone on the line. Ive said for a while I believe the plan is to play Jenkins at C and start Runyan at G which is what we saw this past week.
Kevin King- Unreliable whether thats on the field or availability. He is going to get paid because the league lacks CBs but he isnt worth it.
Mercedes Lewis- This has been wasted cap for years.
Lane Taylor- Old and oft injured.
Montravious Adams- He started to play a bit better but that doesnt mean much. Position needs improving
Jamal Williams- Dont pay RBs.
Aaron Jones- Again you dont pay RBs. Look at all the teams that regret it. Jets with Bell, Falcons with Freeman, Rams with Gurley, Cardinals with Johnson, Texans with Lamar Miller. The list is endless in the modern era. You (over)drafted a RB in the 2nd round. Make use of him.
Tim Boyle- Hes a fine backup but you dont take a QB in the 1st round and not have him be QB2.
Resign:
Tyler Ervin- Solid backup with some utility and doubles as a returner.
Robert Tonyan- Hes an RFA and the best TE on the roster.
Tyler Lancaster- Serviceable player who should be a rotational guy, not a starter. Cheap RFA.
Chandon Sullivan- Cheap RFA starter worthy at nickel.
Allen Lazard- Another RFA with enough talent to be rotational but shouldnt be a starter.
Raven Greene- Solid RFA with versatility.
Cut:
Preston Smith- Cut to save 8 million. We also eat 8 mil dead cap but thats what you have to do when you make decisions like you have down syndrome.
Rick Wagner- Waste of cap space paying 6 mil to pay an aging vet to be a swing tackle. Saves 4 and costs 2 mil and dead cap.
Christian Kirksey- This guy just isnt it. Saves 6 and costs us 2 mil.
Dean Lowry- Just doesnt cut it. Saves 3 mil and costs 3 mil to cut.
Burks- Doesnt really save us anything but when a team starts playing someone out of position just to find him a spot to play (Neal, Datone) its time to go.
Darrius Sheppard- If he makes it this far...lol
Devin Funchess- This dude is a lazy bum. Wouldnt show up for the season. Save about a mil and costs us a mil to cut.
FA:
Were poor as $%@#. I dont expect the cap to drop to this projected 176mil. I just think thats absurd. I think more likely the cap remains the same and then itll just have smaller than expected bumps in the future. This leaves us at 176 mil total and if the cap remains the same we have about 15 million to spend after the rookie contracts.
Antonio Callaway WR MIA- Ive always liked Callaway. He fits what we need from the slot. He can also return kicks and punts. Hes a playmaker with the ball in his hands but hasnt really been given much opportunity. We should be able to get him on a very cheap deal.
Lawrence Guy DT NE- Once a Packers draft pick hes been a very valuable piece to the Patriots front. Hes having a down year but so is that whole team. Hes a decent player with a ton of experience and should come relatively cheap on a 1 year deal I believe.
Draft:
I expect 2 4th round comp picks for Bulaga and Martinez and a 6th for Fackrell.
Round 1:
Shaun Wade CB OSU
Wade has played all over the defense for OSU as he has progressed throughout college playing Safety, nickel, and now outside CB. He has size and athleticism to be a good player and has shown the coverage skills in the slot to stick to guys. He needs to get better at locating and playing the ball but the experience is there. This is overall a really good CB class I think. Horn and Surtain are the top of the class. The highest ceiling is Fairley but he has a major lack of experience and I just wouldnt trust him. With King leaving the Packers need to find a new starter to pair long term with Alexander. Jackson just isnt the guy.
Round 2:
Tamorrion Terry WR FSU
I usually hate going after players like Terry early where they lack production do to really horrendous QB play (played with Hornibrooks bumass after he transferred) but Terry is just such a threat to score at anytime. At 6'4 205 this kid can beat people deep or get the ball short and break a game open. He definitely needs some development and can probably bulk up a bit more but I think he has potential to be a big time receiver who can do it all. This is another good year for WRs. It looks like I have Terry a bit higher than most but I think he rises and will go early 3rd so it isnt egregious.
Round 3:
Tedarrell Slaton DT Florida
This has been one of my favorite players this season. He is a big DT who can control and shut down a run game. Hes 6'5 but he understand leverage and hot to get low and use his size/strength to shut &%$@ down. Clark would be allowed to wreck havoc with a guy this big next to him in the run game. A cheap run stopper like this would go a long way for our defense.
Round 4a:
Charles Snowden Edge Virginia
Snowden is going off right now in the ACC. He had a sack against Miami, 4 against UNC, and 1 against Louisville in a 3 game stretch. Its worth a look for an early mock. Hes listed at 6'7 but only 235 so hes going to need to bulk up but at that length with some good coaching he could be very good.
Round 4b:
Dillon Radunz OT North Dakota St
Radunz is the LT for ND St and has been a great pass protector. His run blocking is &%$@ but its do to lack of experience. He has the length listed at 6'6 but hes in the low 300s and needs to bulk up a bit. Hes got good feet and technique for pass protection. Not to say he will be some great starter but I think hes a good project to develop behind Bak in case of injury and in the future who knows but I really like this prospect. He gave up 0 sacks in 2019.
Round 4c:
Chubba Hubbard RB Oklahoma St
I think I might have Hubbard too late in this one but oh well. I liken Hubbard to a faster Jamal Williams but with way worse blocking and hands. He has really good vision and has some breakaway potential. I wouldnt call him an elusive runner or a power runner but he does very well allowing blocks to develop and finding the right hole and getting through it. He definitely has the mind for being a ball carrier.
Round 5:
Paddy Fisher LB Northwestern
This is my guy. I had him in almost every mock last season before he decided to return to school. When you think of LBs that get in there on every tackle whether they need to or not this is that player. He loves getting in there and landing a hit. Not only that but he goes for the ball as he has forced a ton of fumbles in his career. Hes also a vocal leader and is usually pretty assignment sure. He does lack athleticism but he makes up for that with effort and intensity.
Round 6a:
Max Borghi RB Washington St
No running back in this class has been a more productive pass catcher. In 2 years Borghi has caught 130 passes. His hands are very good and his short area quickness is where he excels. He isnt a gamebreaker but he can be a mismatch player that can abuse linebackers in coverage. Hes a very good screen back that knows how to sell and set up blockers. As a runner hes definitely an outside zone guy. He is lacking in the size and strength department.
Round 6b:
James Wiggins S Cincinnati
Im not sure where Wiggins ends up as hes had a pretty injury riddled career. I always see that as discounted talent. Hes a really good player who kind of reminds me of Amos. He wont be a play maker but he wont screw you much either. His tackling is solid and shows he can put a good hit on someone when need be. He should go way higher than this if it wasnt for his history with injuries.
Round 7:
Ihmir Smith Marsette WR Iowa
This is a return specialist only. He really reminds me a bit of Trevor Davis. He has straight line speed for sure but hes very thin and lanky. He returned 2 kicks last season for scores and was 2nd in the big 10 with a 29.5 return average. The also handed the ball to him a few times and tried getting him the ball in space where he is best suited to succeed. Hes just not really a good receiver though.
