I expected this to be a post draft move, but I'm glad.

Ervin definitely gave us a boost in the return game, glad to see him return.
I personally prefer having a primary returner who doesn't have to split practice time between STs and his regular position. With the new CBA adding 2 players to both the roster and game day actives, we can afford that specialization.

This is a good thing. Before this, I thought that you could just throw any guy back there with speed that would not make mistakes. They really had some poor years in this aspect of the game.

Great. Actually showing that the return position is valued by the club. unfortunately the league has been working to minimize their impact. I'm certainly fine using him as a gadget guy on O.

Surprised this took so long.
Not only did he boost the return game, added a nice dimension on O as well.
That whole Shanahan tree is all about getting scrub RB's who just fit into your system.

I'm excited to have him back; the return part is a given, but the way he was slowly worked into the offense and the versatility he provides and the explosion he has in the passing game from the backfield or motioned out gives us options when Jones is knicked up or needs a breather.

The only knock I have and maybe it was familiarity, but his ability to track the ball was horrible in pass routes. Teams weren't afraid to stick a LB on him. That has to get better or his value isn't there for some of those things you would really like to use him for.

Not even 300k more than a UDFA would cost against the cap.

Yup. $750K cap hit because he signed a vet minimum deal plus his $137,500 signing bonus puts it at a cap hit of $887.5K

Good return man coming back on a team friendly deal. What's not to like?!

I definitely like this. I thought Ervin did really well with the opportunity he was given.

Yay!
He almost reminds me of Allen Rossum. (Why did we ever let that guy go?) Glad he's back. And excited for what he might bring to the offense too!

Oddly, this FA signing makes me the happiest. Low cap impact, high special teams impact. If he can give anything to the offense it's a real bonus.

Great news! This shores up special teams. JK Scott, Crosby’s return (so he can make the tackles on kick offs) and now Ervin.

Yeah, I think if we play to his strengths, he can contribute a unique feature. I loved some of the jet sweep stuff they did against Seattle in the playoffs.
