General Packer News 2021

So looking into 2021 and needs:

QB - No need to starter upgrade of depth
RB - Depth need
WR - Depth need and Slot/Gadget type needed
IOL - Starter upgrade needed at C
OT - Starter upgrade needed
LS - Starter upgrade needed
P - Starter upgrade needed
K - No need
DL - Starter upgrade would be nice
OLB - Depth need
ILB - Starter upgrade would be nice
CB - Starter upgrade needed
S - Depth need

So, I would say offensive line and cornerback are our 2 biggest needs heading into the offseason. I am assuming all under contract stay and all current free agents leave. I realize that will not happen, but don't want to speculate.

I think my two "Positions of need" I will be hoping lands to us in Rd 1 this year for the draft is CB or DL. Like if Asante Samuel or Christian Barmore are there at 29 I am pretty happy and those are my guys.

Offensive Tackle is more than likely going to be selected within the first two rounds due to having a need and due to having SO MANY in the draft. Seriously so man tackles.

But I think positions to look at to hope to get a "steal" in FA is CB, DL and WR. Only WRs I would be interested in FA is a cheaper slot type. I really do like the LSU WR and the Florida receiver in the draft too but they are likely gone by 29. I would be absolutely shocked if they get past 25.

I'd disagree at WR.

We need a starting caliber slot WR.

I'd like to see Jamal W resigned at RB. I don't think he'll be expensive.

I could get behind that for sure. Get a RB/WR slot/gadget type.

Discussing the types of players we want is one thing.

Looking to see who will be available and what resource/what other position/player we would give up for said player is another thing.

I just don't think there is a lot of the WR slot types we are looking for this year in the draft. I would like one too but I forsee fans being disappointed.

Kadarius Toney from Florida would be awesome in our offense. I would be thrilled if was picked at 29. I would be surprised if he falls to 29 though and I also would be split if we had Toney or Asante Samual both at 29 and we need to choose between a potential starting WR or CB. I would probably go CB.

Daniel Jerimiah has the Packers taking Tutu Atwell with the #29 pick which honestly stunned me. I actually like Atwell but was thinking he would be more of a round 5 guy due to his limited route tree and overall tiny size.

Another thing we need to consider with these smaller slot and jet sweep guys is their size is an injury risk. We saw it with Swerv. They just can't take the abuse so does it make sense spending large resources on a guy who is anywhere from 170 to 190 pounds if they are on the sideline all the time.

I love the idea of getting a smaller and dynamic guy on Day 3. I just don't see a whole to choose from though based on my limited view of the population this year.

If we skipped WR last draft, in the best draft for WRs in years...I dont see us trying to go WR when the talent pool is significantly worse. I think the offensive stats confirmed to Gutey what he must have believed...that the talent at WR is enough for the O to work.

Whether we agree or not is debatable, but I do not expect for Gutey to be looking to upgrade WR when he obviously told us that he didnt think we needed to last year, and the stats backed him up.

the only time the stats backed him up is when everything else worked, when it didn't, we lost, and when it worked the very best it was with Ervin, a mediocre slot receiver, why does everyone assume that what Guty did with our first round pick last year was the right thing, I sure don't, and a better player then Erving should be at the top of our draft list.

I said whether he did what was right or not can be debated, but that what he did revealed his mindset. Also, I dont think anything happened this year that would have changed his mindset.

I think when the offense starting sucking this year it wasnt because we didnt have a slot guy, it was because we stopped trying to run the ball. The offense worked well most of the year, Lafleur did a nice job of scheming average players open all year.

when the run wont move the chains, or get production on the first or even second down the play callers will start to pass more, and that is why we quit running in some games.

the offense stalled because NO one we had could replace selling the pre snap motion like Ervin, we went and got Austin but he couldn't sell it either, if ya can't sell it then why even use it, which was to me the major issue that caused Lafluer to use it less.

yes Lafluer did a great job with the players he had to work with, however we lost 4 games because no matter what he tried to do wasn't enough, if he had that short zone slot guy it would have given him a player that can/ maybe shed and become a better under neath receiver that we lacked, almost every game annalist commented about this very thing in practically every game we played, course Packer fans no better :thwap: :rotf:

Why I could see Gute going after a WR this year is once again, if a top WR falls to 29, or he takes one in Rd2 or Rd3 because our 2 2018 Draft picks are on their last year of contract.

Therefore might be a good idea to have a fresh WR in the pecking order. We likely have a Wide Open competition for sure for WR4 and always an open competition of WR 2/ WR3 if we get a talent like Jefferson who clearly is better.

I have said this in many threads. I see potential holes or opportunities of improvement literally everywhere on this roster.

The only positions I don't see the Packers using a 1st on is QB, TE (unless it's like Kyle Pitts falls to 29), IOL and RB.

Everything else I think is completely fair game. I would be surprised if we use 29 on a safety.

So I have no idea where a guy like Tutu Atwell will end up. Daniel Jerimiah has the Packers taking him at 29 which was honestly about 2 rounds higher than I thought he would go because he is not a route runner technician.

But I think getting Atwell in Rd 3 or trading up in Rd 4 to nab him would be the Packers dream. Fantastic value but a guy who can be a returner specialist while also filling that Ervin role with the exception of being far more dangerous with the ball in his hands.

I love Gutey emphasizing about Rodgers being a part of the plan now and in the future. Queue the rumor that Rodgers is gunning for LaFleur's job after he's done playing and he's going to coach up Jordan Love!
