2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class

How can John Lynch get in ahead of Leroy Butler? This is ridiculous.
Butler: 4X first team All-Pro. 38 INTs, 20.5 Sacks, 13 Forced Fumbles
Lynch: 2X first team All-Pro. 26 INTs, 13 Sacks, 16 Forced Fumbles
And Drew Pearson in ahead of Bill Howton ?! You've got to be kidding me. When Bill Howton retired he was the ALL TIME NFL LEADER in pass receptions. Howton accomplished this playing on perennial losing teams. Packers from 1952-58 never had a winning record. Browns in 1959 went 7-5. And the Cowboys expansion team from 1960-63 never had a winning record).
And Sterling Sharpe not in the conversation when Calvin Johnson got in ?! You've got to be kidding me.
Alan Faneca makes sense (6X first team All-Pro). Of course Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson make sense as well.
Lewellen, Dilweg, Howton, Gillingham, Sharpe, Butler
Calvin Johnson 3X All-Pro, 731 receptions in 9 seasons (16 game seasons)
Sterling Sharpe 3X All-Pro, 595 receptions in 7 seasons (16 game seasons)
Drew Pearson 3X All Pro, 489 receptions in 11 seasons (14 and 16 game seasons)
Bill Howton 2X All Pro, 503 receptions in 12 seasons (12 and 14 game seasons (mostly 12))
GO PACK GO!!

I'd really love to hear the HOF voting body explain how Lynch got in as a 1st time ballot. His career numbers are good but far from great. There are many multi-year pass-overs that have better career marks than him. There are still several safeties - LeRoy Butler among them - who are still on the outside looking in who have a better argument for induction than Lynch. This is a big
for me.
Seriously, if someone sees something explaining this decision, paste a link here. I'd love to hear what they based their decision on that set him apart as a 1st time ballot inductee or better than others still awaiting their call.

There's no defendable reason for Lynch getting in ahead of Leroy Butler. And there was no defendable reason for keeping Kramer, Robinson and Dillon out all those years either.

Andre Reed never made All-Pro. He had 951 receptions over a 16 year career.

While I agree with the sentiment, I moreso just love watching 84s highlights. That dude was so very, very good...

Who are the first ballot candidates for 2022?
Can’t think of who might possibly stopped playing after 2016.

Do you really want to listen to the HOF voters lie to you as to why they picked somebody like Lynch over Butler?
It speaks volumes that players such as Butler have to have somebody present the case to these alleged " knowledgeable " voters as to why they should be in the HOF.
Shouldn't they already know about the players they're going to vote for? I'm guessing over half of them never heard of or ever saw Butler play.
It's become a popularity contest and there seems to be a love affair with the 90s Bronco teams. Don't be surprised if Rod Smith gets in the hall before Butler.

First ballot candidates are:
Demarcus Ware
Anquan Boldin
Andre Johnson
Steve Smith
Vince Wilfork
Robert Mathis
Tony Romo
Mario Williams
Chad Greenway
OK.........I've already made my picks.........2022 will be the year of the Packers:
Sharpe, Howton,
Butler, Ware and
Gillingham.

Interesting trio of WR's. Like, clearly, some of the most productive WR's of the past decade, but HOF worthy? Ugh. I don't know. Boldin would be #1 for me from that group. Demarcus Ware seems like a pretty easy yes vote.

I don’t know if I’d vote any of those players in. They were good players but not historically good.
If I were to pick one of those WRs, I think I’d go with Andre Johnson. He had a few year run where he was considered the best WR of his era. Can’t really say that for Smith or Boldin.

I thought Calvin Johnson was a logical HoF fit, since he sort of laid out a blueprint of what an ideal WR1 of this era should look like in size, skill and athleticism. For these upcoming crops, there are so many WRs with a lot of production, it's hard to really separate to make a case.

Sharpe deserves in before any other WR on that list. Or any other eligible WR not currently in the HOF.

everyone has a opinion on this, obviously Packer fan bias supports Sharp
JImmy Smith and Sterling because they played prior to the pass heavy era.

I am pleased to report that the Pro Football Hall of Fame store is selling Charles Woodson souvenirs with Packers colors, logos, etc. Raiders too of course. Coolest item IMHO is a coffee mug with all of the Packers Pro Football Hall of Famer's names on the mug. I'd buy it in a fraction of a heartbeat if Sharpe and Butler were on the mug ............ have to wait and see then.

Ron Wolf's comment about the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Sterling Sharpe:
“What they need to know,” he said, “is that you have to consider who he played for. He played for a lousy Green Bay Packers' team until Mike Holmgren and I got there and kind of changed the fortunes. But he’s the reason for the change."
