Richard Sherman

Post by texas »

I hope we go after Richard Sherman. Now that's the kind of guy we need on defense. I don't know how good he is anymore but he sure looked solid in 2019 whenever I'd watch the 49ers steamroll people. If he's uninjured and hasn't fallen off a cliff a la post-injury Jordy, he'd instantly give us a competent #2 CB (I would even hang on to King as a #3 despite his horrible day). But possibly more importantly, he brings the exact energy and spirit we need on our team.

I would take him over JJ 10 times out of 10. JJ is the type of family-friendly "Packers person" that gets shellshocked and hangs his head on the bench when we get punched in the mouth. Richard Sherman was drafted literally because he is "the type of guy who would win in a street fight" and he is known to play rough. He and Rodgers respect each other, so I could see him coming here.

Hopefully BG and MLF see things the way I do. I'd certainly inquire about JJ and see if we can get him on a cheap deal, but I'm going all in for Sherman, if he would pass a physical of course. Also I talked to my friend who knows football and he agreed 100%. It seems obvious that this is the guy we need to change the complexion of our notoriously soft defense.

I disagree completely. I think Watt is the guy you are looking for. It's the other 10 guys on defense that didn't hold up their end of the bargain while JJ kept battling through all the losing. I do agree that we have had a problem, especially on defense, with our biggest stars not showing up. I think JJ Watt helps to fix that, not perpetuate the problem.

Watt rant over. I do like Richard Sherman and would be happy to have him as a stop gap at CB, but I suspect the market will be better for him than what we will be able to offer. It would have to be a 1-year deal at a pretty low salary for me to feel good about it given his injury history and I just think he will have no problem finding more on the market.

Jaire and Sherman play the same side, traditionally. One of them would have to move. I think I'd prefer bringing in a younger vet/draft picks.

they don't, in fact I'd bet they see things completely different.

Good point. I think it's a bigger deal than most realize and I wouldn't want to do anything to make either less valuable. Just roll with some kids and I think we will be fine.

King was the worst starting CB in football last year.

Anything is an upgrade.

I fear Packers fans will have a "be careful what you wish for" next season.

Kevin King is honestly probably the 4th best CB in GB in the 2010's if we include the Hayward struggle seasons.

1. Jaire
2. Same Shields
3. Tramon Williams
4. Kevin King

We have had a lot worse at the position.

Old player at the position that requires the most athleticism in the NFL. Coming off an injury year. I’ll pass on Sherman.

Not sure what Hayward struggle seasons you’re referring to. He was hurt his second or 3rd year and had a reduced role his final year do to the idiocy of drafting Randall and Rollins to replace him. He had 2 great years with us and his rookie year was phenomenal. There’s no way Hayward is below King in terms of skill or impact with us.

King is tied with Randall. Both physically gifted players who had pea brains. Both awful draft selections. Both single handedly ended the Packers season.

Statistically more than one grading site put King at the very bottom of starting CBs.

Bad tackler.

Bad in coverage.

Rarely does a starting CB possess both of those qualities.

Hope we find a way to try something.

Going into the season with Hollman and Jackson sounds like a dreadful idea.
