Fiasco Mock 4.0 Only Draft

Only draft here. No point in throwing in FAs as I dont foresee us signing anyone until right before the draft where players will probably at their cheapest as teams fill in their final holes during the draft.
Round 1:
Nick Bolton LB Missouri
Bolton might lack the elite athleticism numbers the Packers usually look for and we will probably never know what they are because their is no combine and pro days are fake news. I dont really care though. I think whoever gets Bolton gets an instant attitude adjustment to their defense. This is the type of guy whos play inspires other. Hes strong, instinctive, and active when it come to tackling. He flat out rocks players in an age where that skill is dying. I really dont think Barnes is that good of a player. I would like to think Martin is solid and depending if he develops and gets more experience he could from a physical duo with Bolton for years to come where our soft underbelly of a defense is now feared.
Round 2:
Walker Little OT Stanford
Its hard to say where Little will go. I think this value is about right. He hasnt played in forever. He opted out 2020 and was hurt almost all of 2019. 5 star recruit coming out of a Texas highschool. 9th overall recruit in the country. At one point in time he was considered the top OT in college football by quite a few sources. The rust factor will probably be an issue. Hes got great length for the position. Obviously a bright guy going to Stanford. He should absolutely be considered a 1st round prospect but with the deep class and lack of playtime this is a player that is a steal and honestly I think has the most potential in this class outside of Sewell.
Round 3:
Tyler Shelvin DT LSU
Hes been mocked around this board a lot. I want a run stuffing space eater. There is no point in having so much invested in your pass rush and secondary if youre constantly in 2nd and 6 and 3rd and 3. That is just a poor way to play. Enable your pass defense by setting them up with 3rd and longs. Shelvin will eat space and be a good early down run stuffer. It also helps alleviate Clark who has played entirely too many snaps for the Packers that I think theyve limited his effectiveness to an extent. He can be even more dominant if kept a little more fresh and isnt relied upon to do it all up from.
Round 4a:
Kelvin Joseph CB Kentucky
Here is another bargain player with a very high ceiling but very little play time. He was an LSU commit but after being suspended he transferred to Kentucky where he played well and took on some of this classes top talent like the Bama receivers and Kyle Pitts. There is a ton of work that needs to be done from an experience standpoint. If you sign a veteran, have a competition being Jackson, the vet, Hollman, and bring Joseph along for 2022 I think youve got something good enough to work at the position moving forward without investing highly. We dont need a #1 CB, like we dont need a #1 WR. We can go with developmental players in the middle rounds to hlpe these position groups. Im intrigued with Joseph because hes long, athletic, a 4 star recruit, and was an LSU (DBU) player. They pretty much get their pick of the litter in the nation at CB talent.
Round 4b:
Tamorrion Terry WR FSU
Ive had Terry in all my mocks. Drafting Terry is like pressing the reset button on MVS. Terry is 6'4 with better tracking than MVS and probably the same if not just slightly less speed. Their hands are probably equally questionable. The difference I think is Terry has way more playmaking potential in the short to intermediate game than MVS. He never really got his opportunity to shine because of god awful QB play. I would really like to take another swing on a guy who can take the top of the defense, has really good size, and has a ton of potential on the boundary. The Packers arent going to keep MVS around. Either he continues to be inconsistent or he becomes a one year wonder in which I wouldnt trust he returns to being that inconsistent player.
Round 5a:
Whop Philyor WR Indiana
If you want a small player that doesnt fit the core principles of the offense (run to set up the pass) this is where you get a niche type of player to fill an off role. I think Philyor can be that shifty slot guy who can make plays with the ball in his hands. Hes made some really impressive catches over his career. Hes been super productive. Probably for me the thing that stands out is how good he is breaking out of tackles. Hes elusive but he also shows great strength and balance for a player his size to fight through arm tackles. I would love to see what he runs. Seems like a more quick than fast guy. Definitely understands how to get open in the scramble drill whether thats moving towards the vacancy in zones or just sitting down in the hole.
Round 5b:
Caden Sterns S Texas
Former 4 star recruit who has known nothing but Texas football. Pretty athletic. Has good size and weight for the position. Definitely not a box safety or the type you want as a big nickel. He had a great Freshman season before disappointing as a Sophomore and getting hurt as a Junior. Theres definitely some potential for him as a FS I think which is where this team falls apart if Savage goes down. It could also allow some versatility to move Savage around as a nickel guy to play man or blitz. A definite step up over Redmond even as a rookie. I really like his zone coverage and ability to bait QBs. Solid ball skills.
Round 6a:
Jaret Patterson RB Buffalo
This reminds me of another late round Buffalo RB we took over a decade ago. Although not as big as Starks Pattersons production is pretty similar. Really a do it all guy for Buffalo. I think this is kind of like a Jamaal Williams type of player. Just solid. He will never push to be a #1 RB but will do fine as the complimentary runner. Never fumbled as a ball carrier. A lot of reports on him is his carrying style is very conservative and he prides himself on positioning/staying high and tight. A lot of games Ive watched from him he almost always shifts the ball to the sideline. Just really fundamentally sound. Hes got a nose for the endzone and knows how to score. In 6 games he scored 19 TDs this season. The year before in a full season he scored another 19. As a Freshamn he scored 14. This guy can get in the endzone and not turn the ball over. That is invaluable at the RB position. Hes on the shorter side but well built in his lower body to fight for yards. You can tell he doesnt have a lot of burst or speed when he does have open field opportunities at the college level. Another player I would be interested in a 40 time.
Round 6b:
Pro Wells TE TCU
Super athletic with an incredibly high ceiling as a receiver. His blocking is garbage but he is very new to the position. He didnt take on football until he was a high school Senior. Originally committed to Marshall where he would play both Basketball and Football. Eventually went all in on football and settled in at TCU after a JUCO stint. His athleticism is on full display running seams where you can hide his deficiency as a route runner. After the catch hes pretty shifty too. There is a ton to work with here as an athlete but he is probably a long time developmental player considering his routes are still pretty poor and his blocking is lackluster. You could really get some Jermicahel Finley like leaps out of him though from year to year given some great coaching and a scheme designed to get an athletic TE in space.
Round 7:
Rashad Weaver Edge Pitt
Hard to say whos sticking around this late in a draft with limited information and playtime. Weaver is a really big edge defender who matches the size of the guys we currently have. 6'4 265ish and is very disruptive up front. Definitely a edge setter and bull rusher. Probably not one of the guys that will ever be known for his bends or insta-sheds but he could be a solid rotational piece on early downs if ever needed. This is a high motor player who will play to the whistle because he knows his strengths and limitations. He doesnt try to be something hes not. You dont see spin moves or swim moves or anything like that. Overall I think hes perfect for a role player on the edge.
