Here's how this works:

Each day there is a new thread/poll, starting at #1, on down to whereever we get. The whole point of this exercise is to have something to talk about in the lean news months to carry us to camp. Each poll will be open for voting for 24 hours. New threads will only be created on weekdays. Ties will cause a runoff poll.

Simply voting is not enough!

Post why you voted for who you did and provide a player to add to the next poll (every poll will be a list of 10 guys, a new player is added to the list each day).

Here's the thing. There is no criteria. This is an exercise to foster discussion therefore there are no clear criteria for ranking. Who is better right now? Who will have the best season? Who was better last year? Sort of a combo of them all? Do you take positional value into account? It really doesn't matter.

Alright this has to be Kamal Martin's spot.

Going with M. Lewis with my other pick. He plays a good number of snaps. Also a key presence in the locker room.

Campbell and Lewis are both key role-player/quasi-starters. I feel like a pass-down LB is more valuable generally than a blocking TE, but Lewis may be better at what he does, plus his impact goes beyond the field with his leadership.

Martin and Newman meanwhile are two guys who could outplay this slot significantly.

Josiah still. Kind of crazy to me the starting fullback with a ton more functionality isnt getting more attention. I think Ive been voting him for 7 straight polls now.

Went with Campbell as the other pick. I really think the coaches are not thrilled with Barnes or Martin. If they were they would have just moved on without bringing in a vet.

I probably would be in sync with this if I believed he was the only option at FB. Dom Dafney is at least a snap share, IMO, and at best the overall better player.

Lewis is 37, time to move on to young guns with more to offer. Sternberger can block and caught 2 more balls last year than Marcedes with half the snaps plus he plays STs. Deguara is going to get his chance.

I just dont see it. I liked Dafney but theres no way he plays over Deguara.

Tonyan is obviously a lock to make the roster. I cant imagine the Packers cutting 3rd round picks so early into their deals so Stern and Deguara are locks. Despite Sternbergers suspension theres no way hes going anywhere yet. We just overpaid Lewis for 2 years so he is likely a lock. Thats 4 TEs there. In a league that barely uses 1 FB I cant see the team carrying 2 along with 4 TEs.

I think Dafney makes the roster for 2 weeks and then goes to practice squad when Jace gets back.

It will be time to move on from Lewis soon enough - but not quite yet. Sternberger cannot block a DE or Edge player like Lewis does- he's not even close. Two different TEs with completely different roles. MLF loves Marcedes in the run game and there isn't a suitable replacement on the roster yet, but there are hopes for Kaufusi to make the leap and ascend into that in-line blocking role.

Tonyan was a marginal athlete at WR in college. He is not a marginal athlete at TE. He's not ELITE athlete, like some sort of crazy 4.4 speed at 6'6", but he is far better than marginal athletically. His issue is that he was very raw from a smaller school and changing positions to a position that takes a while to master, anyway. There's nothing athletically deficient about Tonyan.

OK, but he's still light as TE's go, and runs 4.6, thats marginal in my book, he also was udfa thats been discarded by two teams prior to landing with us, he needs to improve his blocking and route running, which hopefully he will, he's big and knows how to wall off a defender, obvious with his reception numbers, but he gets almost zero yac yards, a result of sitting up and being Rodgers last resort receiver, AIS hopefully another off season and MLF designing some different schemes for him will help him take another leaqp.

The average 40 time for TEs is 4.70 so Tonyan (who actually ran 4.58, let's not short change him) is above average at least

223 YAC is not even close to "almost zero YAC yards..."

That he was an UDFA and went through 2 other teams doesn't matter in the slightest to his current performance.

You don't know what Sternberge can do until he his is given enough shots at it, he's looked good blocking. And you don't know when Lewis will fall off a cliff at 37. If he is just a blocker run a sixth OL on the field occasionally.

Lewis is the best blocking TE I've ever seen. The only one I'd be confident to leave pass block a mid-tier edge rusher 1-1. The benefit of him over an extra OL is that he has super reliable hands when LaFleur pulls out the sneaky extra blocker passing route. Y'all know how much LF loves versatility and options in his offense. Lewis will never get long gains, but reliable 5-yarders have their uses.

If Sterny wants to ever be a starter for GB, this is no time to be invisible as he has been. If he doesn't make a big, big leap, we'll have to bite the big contract and give Tonyan the job long term (I wouldn't mind that personally, but cap is tight).
