Looking at the list of DBs I think this is the year the disrespect ends for Leroy Butler. Hes the best of the group by far. A case could be made for Ronde Barber but I feel thats any easy argument to shut down. Nick Collins is in there as well. Such a shame he wont get the credit he deserves. In terms of safeties returning INTs, outside of Ed Reed, was anyone better?
QBs nominated are a joke considering the echelon. Jake Delomme? Jeff Garcia? Dave Kreig?!?!?!
RBs are not the most impressive compared to recent years. Eddie George is by far the best of this group in terms of longevity. Alexander and Holmes peaks though were nuts.
The WRs are star studded. Andre Johnson to me shouldnt have to wait long. A shame his career was wasted the way it was. His numbers dont reflect how dominant he was. Driver is on the list but I think he will never sniff being a finalist. Steve Smith is my all time favorite non Packer receiver. Loved watching the shortest guy on the field talk the most trash and back it up. Reggie Wayne is probably the WR this year.
So many studs on the offensive line. The defensive line I think Jared Allen should get in. Demarcus Ware should be an easy 1st ballot I would think.
Patrick Willis should have been 1st ballot. I do not give a &%$@ if he retired early. He came into the league as a rookie as the best LB in the league and retired the same way. 8 seasons, 7 pro bowls, 5 1st team All Pros.
What are peoples thoughts on Hester? I think hes 1st ballot. No one ever did what he did as a returner or even came close. Now with the rules as they are he is cemented as the greatest returner to ever live. Hate the Bears but Hester was just incredible to watch. I would have to hold my breath every kick. Really hate the KR rules now. Takes one of the most exciting plays out of the game completely.

I think Hester should get in on the first ballot. He has all the stats justifying enshrinement.
Leroy Butler should have been in last year, but instead they took John Lynch. Butler's stats far exceed Lynch. The back of the south endzone says END RACISM.
Still waiting for Sharpe, Gillingham and Verne Llewellen.

ya, well, you know John Lynch is after all a GM
now obviously stuff like that should not sway a vote, but we both know it does, racism isn't the reason Butler didn't get voted in, his after football playing days simply isn't on the same level as Lynch, right or wrong, I think that has a lot to do with it.

I fear you might have a long wait for these gentlemen. Llewellen played too long ago and Sharpe didn't play long enough. I don't know how they rate OL like Gillingham.

Nick Collins making the list (deserved, believe me) seems to open the door for Sharpe in my book. Both played 7 years. Sharpe had a 3 year run of elite play in the early 90's that receivers today still cannot consistently hit.

The big problem for Lewellen is he is most well-known as a punter, but of course most people have no idea how important punters were before circa 1933.
This article gives some of his stats:

Note that he was also a scoring machine, but that has somehow been overshadowed by his punting.

How did I not see Collins name there?

Its really sad to know he will never make it because of longevity. That injury changed the course of this defense. We would have had a really good duo going forward with Collins and Burnett. Instead we lose Collins prematurely and struggled at FS pretty much up until Savage.

Lavvie Dilweg too.
Bill Howton #86 before Boyd Dowler was the all time NFL receptions leader when he retired from the NFL. At least Bobby Dillon got in finally.

Dilweg was 5X first team All Pro. Lewellen 4X. Howton 2X. Sharpe 3X. Gillingham 2X. Butler 4X.

I hate hearing that Sharpe needed to play longer. Terrell Davis made it by playing 4 years, why should we not be saying it for him?

Davis has 2 rings, an MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and was just the 4th player at the time to hit the 2000 yard mark for RBs.
I agree he doesn’t deserve to be in on just 4 years. He never got the chance to fall off. Or it could be argued he did fall off because the injuries. But his awards give him something Sharpe doesn’t have.

Sharpe has 5x pro bowl, 3x first team all pro just to name a few.
TD Had 3 more seasons but they combined to his first year. 1100 yards.

I hear you. But Sharpe has no Super Bowls, fair or not, and no MVPs.

Who has an MVP that's a wide receiver?

Im not arguing that. I mentioned MVPs because Terrell Davis has one and that helped his case to get in despite lacking longevity.
All the awards TD as helped is case and unfortunately Sharpe is lacking them.
