Ty Summers & Malik Taylor to IR

Post by NCF »

Guessing that is the last we see of either of them for the season. Two of the better performers on ST... that isn't exactly great news.

I actually thought Malik was awful at STs so I dont see how that one hurts us. Ty certainly was a warm body on STs.

Yeah I wouldn't put either as excellent special teamers at all.

They were core ST players on an abysmal unit. If there are any competent special teams players out there, maybe they can fill these open roster spots.

Taylor could have stepped up and become the kickoff returner or punt receiver the Packers need, but he did not. Unless we have coach's film, there is very little we can say about Summers.

However, what we do know has very little to do with these 2 players.
We have a kicker who cannot put the kickoff into the endzone or kick it high enough to give the coverage team downfield.
We have a kicker who is great when he gets a perfect snap and a perfect hold but who is really bad at making field goals when everything is not perfect.
We have a long snapper with exactly 6 games of experience in the NFL. We have a new punter. The inevitable result is that some snaps and holds will not be exactly perfect as our kicker expects.
The Packers #1 option for kickoff returns is on IR.
Finding a ST upgrade for these 2 players is not going to fix very much

I disagree, a competent kick-returner would be an appreciable fix to the unit IMO.
