Round 3 - Pick #92, Sean Rhyan, OT, UCLA
Moderators: NCF, salmar80, BF004, APB, Packfntk
He could seriously compete with Newman. I think this is a good pick. Definitely good depth at either guard spot and could probably spot at RT if necessary.
We now have a "backup" at pretty much each spot. And I still expect us to bring Kelly back in June.
I think our Oline is set pretty good.

Good, we needed OL depth

Didn't have him on my radar, read through his scouting report just now. I dig it, like seeing a guy play with lots of starting LT experience and a frame that could hold up inside.
Not sure where he will play and may end up not needing him if our Top 5 are all healthy and come to play, but our OL play needs to be better this year and having depth to take hits is crucial. And we have been excellent at developing OL talent. Can't knock this pick if I tried.

I don't like it. You don't pick a 3rd rounder for depth at a position group that is already pretty good (if Bak comes back well from the knee after another offseason). Not much stronger than I was three years ago before I stopped benching due to my shoulder. Clearly not taken to play tackle, but is weak for inside.
Maybe this is a sign Bak isn't doing well and the plan is to put him at guard and Jenkins at LT?

Here's where he fits in with other Gutey OL:
Orange highlight is where he's the "worst" of the group (weight isn't bad or good; could be green)
Green highlight is where he's the best of the group.
His 40-time is significantly slower than the next slowest (by a full tenth), but his 10-yard time is right in the range.
His bench needs some work.
His shuttle at the combine would have been our worst (4.81) but his shuttle at his pro day was out best (4.60)
His jumps are the best of the Gutey OL acquisitions.

Hypothetically:
Bak - Jenkins - Myers - Runyan - Rhyan
or
Jenkins - Runyan - Myers - Rhyan - Nijman

Just said he never missed a SNAP due to injury in college; only came out of the game in blowouts
This is just bizarre.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑29 Apr 2022 22:09Here's where he fits in with other Gutey OL:

Maybe he just hates high rep work? His bench really doesn't need work, above 20 reps doing more reps isn't "stronger", its fatigue training. Serves no actual purpose to do a lot of reps.
But jumps are pretty much a measure of leg strength. Dudes that can jump high can squat a lot. Dudes that have a long broad jump can deadlift a lot. Raw strength is the best jump training up to a a very elite level. Guys with elite jumps don't skip leg day.

This is my guess.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑29 Apr 2022 22:14Or the most obvious:Crazylegs Starks wrote: ↑29 Apr 2022 22:11Hypothetically:

Honestly I feel I am in the minority of Packers fans and their outlook on our Oline. I wasn't that impressed last year and I think Myers and Newman were the clear weak links. I think we can easily upgrade over Newman.
But Rhyan can be a Tackle. He has long enough arms.
My guess is they start Rhyan at RT but eventually try him at RG when Jenkins come back.
