Jet's draft pick
It appears that based upon record alone, they are in a 4 way tie for 8th place.
Looks like the Packers get the 10th pick of the second round. Good place for a safety or a guard/center.

Good place for one of the best RB's in this class too, I like to replace players before there worn out, hell I use to think that was a ruleTheSkeptic wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 10:05It appears that based upon record alone, they are in a 4 way tie for 8th place.

My memory of your reaction on the Gary pick must be off then. The Love pick too.Yoop wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 10:17Good place for one of the best RB's in this class too, I like to replace players before there worn out, hell I use to think that was a ruleTheSkeptic wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 10:05It appears that based upon record alone, they are in a 4 way tie for 8th place.

I think that’s prime position to move up for the classes top safety not including Dejean.
I really want Nubin from Minnesota. I think he’s going to be one of the leagues best safeties.

well then your memory should reveal that NO one they replaced was worn out, 1 year prior is fine at OLB/DE, 2 years is fine at QBAPB wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 10:39My memory of your reaction on the Gary pick must be off then. see I look at the learning curve for safety as to long, would rather buy a stud and use the draft for more of a walk on and play position, of which RB fits that bill, jmolupedafiasco wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 12:02I think that’s prime position to move up for the classes top safety not including Dejean.

I think you try and sign a good vet, hopefully McKinney, and draft the other to learn from them. Long term by the time you gotta pay the rookie the FA signing will be on his way out. Resign your own guy and draft another to develop.Yoop wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 12:36see I look at the learning curve for safety as to long, would rather buy a stud and use the draft for more of a walk on and play position, of which RB fits that bill, jmolupedafiasco wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 12:02I think that’s prime position to move up for the classes top safety not including Dejean.

I don't see anyone who was as obvious as Amos was when the Packers signed him from Da Bears. I suspect they start the season with Savage and Ford and a 1st or 2nd round rookie.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 12:39I think you try and sign a good vet, hopefully McKinney, and draft the other to learn from them. I think Jeremy Chinn could absolutely see a career resurgence on another team. He's dying a slow, painful career death in Carolina.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 15:52I don't see anyone who was as obvious as Amos was when the Packers signed him from Da Bears. I would like a Safety in one or two of the first five picks. We need a starter for sure. But we also need depth.
And, I would love the irony of GB picking a QB with that pick. I think there's no way that they do that. But I'd love the irony of it.

Usually when we have extreme weaknesses Gutenbumst attacks it with a lot of resources. When he first took over he signed two big money edges and drafted Gary. Last year with TE. The last two years with WR.Scott4Pack wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 17:11I would like a Safety in one or two of the first five picks. We need a starter for sure. But we also need depth.

He's my top choice of safety in this class, too; he might be in no-man's land for us where his value lines up with our second pick, but the lack of options at the position pushes him to be drafted between our first and second picks.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 12:02I really want Nubin from Minnesota. I don’t think he goes in the first. I don’t think he has the elite athletic traits but the combine will sort that out. I just think he’s a really good overall player. Kind of reminds me of Jessie Bates.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 20:27He's my top choice of safety in this class, too; he might be in no-man's land for us where his value lines up with our second pick, but the lack of options at the position pushes him to be drafted between our first and second picks.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 12:02I really want Nubin from Minnesota. I do think we may need to make a small move up in the 2nd to possibly secure it.

You might be right. Then, it's time to look at the market and see which college players might be good fits and which FA Safeties are likely to be available. Guty might have some money to spend this year!lupedafiasco wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024 19:41Usually when we have extreme weaknesses Gutenbumst attacks it with a lot of resources. I am not sure if there is a safety that can come in as a rookie who's value will be higher immediately vs Anthony Johnson Jr will be as a second year player.
Packers GMs are smarter and more visionary than other team's GMs and fans this absolutely proves it.
I am surprised how hung up you get over one year. ONE YEAR. Especially because you are such a Ron Wolf disciple. Ron said himself the best time to draft a quarterback is when you don't need one.
Had we waited another year to draft a pass rusher (instead of Gary) per your philosophy we would have had available:
Yetur Gross-Matos (ick)
Marlon Davidson (cut after 2 years)
Darrell Taylor (actually good but had a career ending injury early)
Had we waited another year to draft a quarterback (instead of Love) per your philosophy we would have had available:
Kyle Trask
Kellon Mond
The players who went before was Fields at 11 and Mac Jones at 15
Gute got it right. He overwhelmingly got it right with both players. You take the players when they are available. Because you don't know when you will get another chance at a high level player at a premium position again. So many teams struggle with this. The Packers are one team that seems to excel at optimizing on the opportunity when available. Especially at quarterback. They are just better.
The Packers have used 3 first round picks on QB since 1992. All of them are a slam dunk.
As for the Jets pick, Guard, slot CB, safety and RB are areas I am targeting.
According to Cliff Christl, that adage came from John Madden. Or at least the basis for the adage.
"The worst time to look for a quarterback is when you need one. If you ever get to the point where you need something, you'll never get it."
John Madden, who won a Super Bowl as coach of the Oakland Raiders and finished his career with the best regular-season winning percentage of any NFL coach in history with at least 100 wins, shared that adage with me more than 35 years ago.

Gutenbumst slammed some absolute colossal balls in the table when taking Love. I said if he blew that pick he 100% needs to be fired. He saved himself by hitting there. IMO no team has ever been close to winning a SB and just made every wrong decision possible to put them over the top. He did however find a QB which saves him.
Now he’s needs to go out and put us over the top without $%@# it up this time. He’s safe for a minimum of 2 more years.
