Packers re-sign Keisean Nixon 3yr $18M (19.2 max)
RIP JustJeff
More than I expected, but not a ton. Curious to see the full deal (of course). He was up and down last season in his first go as a nickel slot. Hoping for improvement there with a full year of Jaire back outside.
RIP JustJeff
With those stats, I'll take middle of the road play with a better coach and the Kick Return threat.

$6M/year isn’t bad. I’m fine with this level of veteran compensation for a select few guys. I’m fine with Nixon being one of them.
I still want to address the slot in the draft.

Looking forward to being proven wrong on Nixon. Was hoping we would bring him back. Thought he could be had for less than $5 million.
Personally, I want an upgrade at the corner spot. I like NIxon as a depth piece but would like more upside at the slot spot. Always wondered if Nixon could play that "box" or robber role.

Also the reporting has been very strong on the Packers.
Said we would target bringing back NIxon, Davis and also was targeting McKinney. Also stated we were asking Jones for a pay cut and were willing to release.
Only real surprise (based on reporting) so far has been Jacobs.

It’s been mostly stemming from Tom Silverstein, it seems to me. Shniedman at The Athletic, also. But the old curmudgeon is really reminding beat reporters that breaking stories is about developing sources, not hot takes.go pak go wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024 15:09Also the reporting has been very strong on the Packers.

Hopefully new kickoff rules will really allow for good returns.

I’m ok with this. I felt his true value was $5M so not far off. He’s still a spark plug on STs as a returner which pays dividends later in the season as it gets colder.
This also give us a solid stable of CBs. Between Jaire, Valentine, Nixon, and Stokes that’s a decent 4. Draft one and get one off waivers and it’s a strong group that’s serviceable.
Our only true need now is SS. Everything else we can get by with.

I feel like he gets a lot of undeserved flak on D, I always thought he was decent. He is heady and instinctual, I think he is a good fit for what Hafley wants too.
This is borderline starter money here too.

meh, I feel like this is an overpay for a guy who should be CB4 and is a return specialist in a league that has been making kick returns obsolete, which is more his strong suit than punt returns. And I say that as someone who felt like he was not as bad in the nickel as a lot of fans made him out to be, but he really should be our #4 CB than our starter there.

we backloaded his deal last year, he had a dead cap this year of 1.5 mil, ouch, doubt we could have found a UFA replacement cheaper.
2100 return yrds in 2 seasons, easy resign for what 6 mil. and 2 get out for free years, plus the ability in the slot ya'd like to improve on, but Nixon at 6 m. seems a good deal
always said the interior defensive positions are harder then people think, &%$@ happens real fast in traffic, mistakes, poor angles are near impossible to correct and your left grasping at air, that I think describes Nixon at times, new coaches= new Nixon, hope.
these people gave him those type grades anyway, I agree with others, we still need to improve on him, but we could be in worse situation, and as a returner he displays nice open field run ability

Solid depth sign for the money. Reality is that with the cap going up almost 15% all salaries are going up. Hell 1/53 of the cap is now 4.811 million.

Ballentine resigned too.
Im sure Hafley was heavily involved on guys he wanted back.
Ballentine maybe a whatever, but that’s real money for Nixon.
Savage got really money too but was evident Hafley said no thank you there, I need someone better.

Like the Ballentine news. Feel pretty good about CB and draft someone. Still would like to see a bargain bin SS and off ball lber. Would give a ton of flexibility in the draft.

I still say try him at a hybrid nickel/safety role. He's got ball skills
He's a top return guy
I'm good with this.

Good re-sign. He got a lot better last year on D. Durable, heady, has juice. Plus the return and random gadget offensive play factor.
2100 return yrds in 2 seasons, granted much of that could have been gotten just taking a touch back, however he has house ability every time he returns a kick, field position matters, specially so late in games with a close score, that and being a reliable Nickle back doesn't come cheap, I think Nixon is good insurance in case the draft doesn't supply a better optionLabrev wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024 15:50meh, I feel like this is an overpay for a guy who should be CB4 and is a return specialist in a league that has been making kick returns obsolete, which is more his strong suit than punt returns.
