Are Vikes in a rebuild?

Post by Scott4Pack »

Letting go of a good QB always brings up the question of whether a team is in a rebuild or not. So, let's ask about the Vikes.

I'm sure Raptor will have some good insight into this.

Hunter is also gone. Schmidt isn't getting any younger. I hear they have a RB turning 30 this year too.

I'm not sure the Vikings want to be in a rebuild but I don't expect them to win a lot of games with Darnold starting for them.

I expect the Vikings to be 4th in the North. So if they are not in a rebuild, they should be.

some expect they'll bundle and move up to take McCarthy, use Donald as a go between till they start McCarthy.

MIN does not do rebuilds. They try to compete every year.

That would be a BIG and EXPENSIVE double-trade up. For one guy. What is the point value on that trade they just made? (Figure that 2025 2nd as between picks 33 and 45.)

It would probably take those 2 picks plus next years 1st to move up to 3. If NE is even interested. And I don't think they will be. I would be shocked in NE made that trade after getting rid of Jones. Who do they have now? Brissett, Zappe, and Rourke.

You like many Vikings fans are assuming he's going to be the starter. Just because they paid him $10 million doesn't mean he will start. I'm sure they will go with whomever they think will win after training camp and pre-season.

Keep this in mind. While MN may not have a whole lot of cap this year, next year they are about $145 million under.

Maybe. Maybe not. You still have to play the games.

I won't assume anything for Darnold. I just don't think he's very good. Let him prove me wrong. But you never know when a guy gets a fresh start in a new setting.

I saw one mock that had the Vikes picking OLine with their first pick and then QB with the second. I don't know if they are patient enough to wait it out like that. I think if they see a guy they want within reach, they will overdo a trade. But they'll get the guy they want. We might cringe when we see trades like that. But if a team gets the guy they want...

The Vikings will be a non-factor again. They're building towards finishing 4th in the North.

Probably. But I was never a fan of Cousins and they are better off without that cap hit for a mediocre QB. Love and Rodgers are proof enough that you don't have to draft in the top 15 to find a top 5 QB. All you need to do is to let him learn for at least a year before throwing him to the wolves.
