NFL draft trip 2024

Post by Backthepack4ever »

Hey y'all just wanted to share the annual draft trip with everyone

We arrived Wednesday early like always to get in good with locals bar keeps and navigation strategy. It worked well. The Detroiter and ol
Shillelagh are great spots with great employees. We never had an empty drink and got quiet the discount. The food is also excellent at both spots. Food overall was great. Pizza to Greek and Lebanese choices are awesome.

The downtown is better then expected. They are really trying to clean it up and you can tell. Good bars food and 2 casinos. Football and baseball stadiums right next to each other. The town went to KC and really did a fine job with setting up and controlling the draft areas. Still a ton of walking but it made sense and a large area DT was pedestrian traffic only. A grade for set up

Outside of downtown oof. Rough is putting it nicely. Crime and poverty everywhere. Every block on the east side where we stayed had abandoned houses or burnt down houses. The Airb&b we stayed in was an old brick house in a once flourishing area (prob 50 years ago). The place was decent though the host sucked to any response and had very little utensils or toiletries. We actually bought stuff for the place. The grass was really high and we offered to cut it (lawnmower for sale up the street 50bucks) and no response. I gave the neighbor a stick of venison sausage and his response was do y'all like girls I can send some over 😆 we declined.

Most ppl were great esp the locals. They all ask what you think of Detroit then laugh when you try to be nice and not tell the truth. They say it's really improved I hate to see the past. Lions fans and Packer fans all teamed up on viking fans so that was fun.

As for the draft we like other years do not go into the stage area and for good reason. It was insanely packed. More ppl then expected showed up. By draft time Thursday night most places were at max capacity and wouldn't let ppl him. Even the casinos were turning ppl away. The streets were packed. The draft has over 800k and that's just in the draft area where they were counting. I'd swear over a million ppl were in Detroit. Getting an Uber was a chore. Like over an hour. This is all with a great set up

Like other years 2 of my buddies are disc golfers so we played 2 courses. When was excellent about 30 mins out and another was meh. As a once a year player we always have a blast

Overall it was a great trip. Still behind Nashville Texas and KC but better then others

On a different note my group all agreed to skip GB next year for a few reasons

One guy works in GB and prob will have to work that week.
They really want to go somewhere warmer and we go to a game every year anyway

And 3 and I know ppl here hate when I say this but trust me GB is not built for this event. They don't have the logistics or room to house 500k or even a 1 million guests. Traveling to and from Milwaukee is not the answer and will be a &%$@ show. I don't say this to knock GB and I really hope it works but I can't imagine it being anything less then a mess

So we are going to the Kentucky derby instead ha.

Thanks for the update. I'm starting to have concerns as well with how big it's growing. GB was planning for 225-250k and now know to expect more.

I hope they can pull it off. But I'm still not sure I want to deal with it. Even at 225k. I'm not much for crowds.

Yea 250k I believe they could do it. But it's gonna be more then that esp bc it's title town.

maybe, but most will travel daily and wont be sleeping in or near GB, I live 130 miles north, and die harders here tell me they'll go for round 1, or day two or 3 only and come back that night, some will go all 3 and stay north by Marinette.

my point is all the die hards in Wi will probably do the same, it's mostly out of state people that will stay in GB or close for the whole event.

I tried to stay in GB once in July and it was expensive at an econo lodge. I think the logistics are gonna be such a headache that we will NOT see the crowds that other drafts have seen. Probably going to be a mess.

That is a guess yoop. Even the parking will be a challenge There will be way more fans from other teams then packer fans. I know Packer fans in Madison and further west that would like to stay, enjoy and not travel. 23 asked about camping on another thread that might be a great option.

The traffic to go in and out isn't going to be fun just saying. I hope it works I really do but after going to the draft for that last 7 years in larger cities I have doubts

agreed, I'am just relaying comments made to me from fans near here, I'am sure it'll be a congested mess.

I go to GB once in a while now, and it's a congested mess at rush hour normally, being a small town native for the last 30 + years driving with expressway traffic is like road racing for me these days :rotf:

I new from the start this would be a logistic's nightmare, not enough rooms, roads, or restaurants for 200,000, let alone 250 to 300 k :aok:

I almost tend to believe they are going to literally shut down roads and have it designated for buses only. You have to limit the amount of passenger cars allowed in GB. It will congest the roads and there will be no where to park.

I don't know how you will do it. (require a pass to actually drive into GB?)

But I imagine you spread the fans and passenger vehicles out. Buses then are designated for certain cities and only stop at certain cities (Appleton bus, Kenosha bus, Sheboygan bus, Milwaukee bus etc.)

It will likely be gameday times 3X or 4X of regular gameday crowds.

Good ideas.

Personally I would host the draft and draft activities/shows in Milwaukee and have day trips for ppl up to GB to check out the stadium and do the draft experience exhibit. It spreads out the crowd and uses a larger city for the bulk.

Idk. I want Wisconsin to kick ass here and show other fans bases the soul of the league.

Whole town is shutting down. We’ll be ready for it. All schools are already closing Thursday and Friday. Most clinics and non emergency hospitals are closing. Many factories are giving notice they’ll close up for those days. I know more people planning on leaving than staying.

It’ll be absolutely crazy, but it’ll be awesome.
