6. Xavier McKinney (35%)[FA]
7. Current (xx%)[--]
Percent of vote the winner got will be in parenthesis, position change vs. 2023 will be in brackets.
Here's how this works:
Each day there is a new thread/poll, starting at #1, on down to whereever we get. The whole point of this exercise is to have something to talk about in the lean news months to carry us to camp. Each poll will be open for voting for 24 hours. New threads will only be created on weekdays. Ties will cause a runoff poll. You may vote up to TWO players (a change that was made mid-poll last year, seemed to work well).
Simply voting is not enough!
Post why you voted for who you did and provide a player to add to the next poll (every poll will be a list of 15-20 guys, new players added in bunches every few days).
Here's the thing. There is no criteria. This is an exercise to foster discussion therefore there are no clear criteria for ranking. Who is better right now? Who will have the best season? Who was better last year? Sort of a combo of them all? Do you take positional value into account? It really doesn't matter.

At #6 McKinney is the highest a FA has ever gone in this. There have been a few that went #7, but never higher.
2014 - Peppers
2017 - Bennet
2018 - Graham
2019 - Z Smith
My picks today are going to be Reed for top pick and Jenkins for my second.

Big E and Preston Smith. Maybe the two most steady, underappreciated players on the roster.

I think Jacobs up next and then I have to start considering the WR's. Can we get Wicks on the list?

I went with Jenkins and Jacobs, but this is so close now, I could have went with about 6 other players
Jenkins and Jacobs. I think I am leaning Reed for my next vote.
Ya need to put Wicks on here.

Watson and Jacobs. No way on God's green earth that any IOL is better than an all Pro Bowl and All Pro RB who has never had less than 1000 scrimmage yards and has gone over 2000 yards 1 season. Oh yeah, he won the Jim Brown award and has been ranked as the 12th best player in the entire NFL. Jenkins might be the 12th best Packer but not higher.
As for Watson, 6'4 210 pound WR's with 4.3 speed don't grow on trees. Oh yeah, in 2 seasons, 14 TD's is not too shabby either.

What he said, Jacobs being the preferred choice.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑08 May 2024 09:15Watson and Jacobs. I have Wicks and Watson projected to be the top two WRs this year, for what its worth. Love me some Elgton but his position value and his non-elite play of late are knocking him back a few pegs in my voting hierarchy.
My pining for Wicks to be added has thus far gone unnoticed. Perhaps this will help:

It is not an apples-to-apples comparison, to say a good IOL is "better" than a good RB. It comes down to what you value more subjectively.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑08 May 2024 09:15No way on God's green earth that any IOL is better than an all Pro Bowl and All Pro RB who has never had less than 1000 scrimmage yards and has gone over 2000 yards 1 season.
I would argue Jenkins should be higher than Jacobs because good OL play is (usually) a prerequisite to good RB play.
Josh Jacobs is a great RB, but he did not play great for the Raiders last year, because putrid OL play (and the lack of a good passing game) held him back. If Jacobs becomes dominant again for us this season, he will owe that success to OL play, and our pass attack. Our OL is pretty good in both facets, and Jenkins is a key reason for that, with just about everyone here having him as one of our top two OL.

For me one of the knocks against Watson is the poor guy can't stay on the field. All that talent and speed doesn't do us any good if he's in street clothes on the sidelines for weeks on end.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑08 May 2024 09:15Watson and Jacobs. There are an inordinate number of ways. Even though I have Jacobs on my short list, there is something about RB's in new systems that doesn't always work out. There is a little bit of I have to see it to believe it with him. They are not as plug and play as some will have you believe.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑08 May 2024 09:15No way on God's green earth that any IOL is better than an all Pro Bowl and All Pro RB who has never had less than 1000 scrimmage yards and has gone over 2000 yards 1 season. He also struggles to run routes and get open despite his speed. That is the bigger issue to me.Pugger wrote: ↑08 May 2024 10:06For me one of the knocks against Watson is the poor guy can't stay on the field. Jacobs was a league leading rusher with an average supporting cast. What is he going to do with studs all over the field to take pressure off him?

He is going to have another 2000 yard season, that is what.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑08 May 2024 10:17Jacobs was a league leading rusher with an average supporting cast. What is he going to do with studs all over the field to take pressure off him?

Lets put it this way:
If a QB screws up bad, he throws a pick 6.
If a RB screws up bad. he fumbles away the ball
If a receiver screws up bad he runs the wrong route and the ball gets picked off.
If an OT screws up bad the backup QB puts on his helmet.
If a center screws up bad he snaps the ball over the QB's head.
All these things are highly visible and people remember them years later
But if a guard screws up bad he causes a QB pressure or the RB gets dropped for a 1 yard loss.
And nobody notices and everybody has forgotten a few minutes later.

Aaron Rodgers just lost a season because his LG failed.
Watson has so far been very inconsistent
we can only guess how good Jacobs will be for us
and it's my contention that not only will Jenkins go back to the PB level of play, he also should have gotten accolades for the grades given both Walker and Myers last season, minus the3 ability of Walker to duo block, shed, reset and counter, neither of those two would have gotten above a C grade.
and your gonna know that as soon as Morgan takes over LT in TC this year
This line-of-thinking places the value of player performance on how memorable it is to everyday fans, not how impactful it is on-field, as can be observed by people who understand football. That does not seem like very sensible criteria.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑08 May 2024 10:35If an OT screws up bad the backup QB puts on his helmet.

Good OL play is a prerequisite for Jacobs's good play. Period. And Jenkins impacts OL play more than anyone on the team not-named-Tom.
Also, no, if a guard or center screws up bad, the QB gets sacked, which often is a drive-killer, and yes, the starter potentially gets injured, as you said will happen if the T screws up bad. And if they screw up bad a lot, the offense usually goes down the toilet.

If a guard screws up it's different than if a tackle screws up?TheSkeptic wrote: ↑08 May 2024 10:35Lets put it this way:

This is cementing my stance for Wicks as WR1. Just the nuance he showed as a rookie and the quick twitch he has physically, he is going to get open a lot.APB wrote: ↑08 May 2024 09:23What he said, Jacobs being the preferred choice.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑08 May 2024 09:15Watson and Jacobs.
