17.5 Million signing bonus. I believe Clark was taken in Ted Thompson's last draft.
Love me Clark, I will probably get his jersey now.

Fun to watch his highlights from last year, doing all the small stuff. Embedded video did not work so here is the link.

Someone said it's not elite DT money in which case I'm fine with this. I was thinking I'd rather do a youth movement at DT not unlike we have done at WR but that was under the assumption that Clark would to be paid like a marquee guy. I also feel like he will shine in a 1-gap system way more. Let's get him a ring.

I gave it a C for now until I get further contract details. I would have really liked to have seen how he did in the new scheme before signing him. I’m not upset about the money but the years I’m not a fan of. He turns 29 in October which is still somewhat young but we have really seen Clark’s play decline since his last extension. I felt like with Wyatt, Brooks, and Wooden you had a solid set that you could have added a little draft compensation to the following year and had an affordable DT rotation.

Neutral move IMO.

DT's with Clarks ability are rare, possibly one of the most demanding positions to play in all of sports, certainly in football, few rise above mediocrity, Clarks only problem here have been lack of quality playing partners, when he has had others that demand attention he typically gets Kenny has been a stud to recon with, in both run stopping and pass rush Clark has been one of our best ever, this seems like a fair contract extension, glad we got it done.

Really good synopsis. The dollars look bit, but comparatively, not that big at all.

Frankly I think this is a fair deal for both sides.

A lot of talent on that D-Line under contract the next few years. Love it.

Looking at what other guys got. APY and guaranteed, packers got a steal, imo. I think Kenny must have wanted this bad, he definitely could have gotten more, imo.

New deal lowers cap number 1.125 million for this year.

Kenny Clark’s new deal: cap numbers by year
2024: $26,365,000
2025: $20,365,000
2026: $31,365,000 (if released we would save $14 million on the salary cap while taking on $17 million in dead cap)
2027: $27,142,000

I can live with that, assuming he continues to play at a high level. The 2026 out protects the team from just that.

So with those number I'm going to move it to a B. I think he was on the hook for 15M in dead cap next year because of the void years we owed him. So theyre basically pushing that back 2 years and taking on a little more if they cut ties in 2026. I think its really good value for keeping him this year as to paying 15M for him not being here. Next year is a super affordable contract. That 2026 year is bad though. I think we are setting ourselves up to restructure and push some of that to the next year and cut ties in 2027 when hes in his 32 year old season. Could be wrong but itll be interesting how it works moving forward.

I think it works out nicely to actually have a realistic choice to eat the dead money or let him play out the contract. It's still a lot of dead money on the back end, but that's what these contracts have become these days. Let him play out the four years and I think this becomes a really good move.

I'm just fine with this extension. I think he plays better than his stats and i'm hoping he's used to his strengths and allowed to make plays because when I zero in on him, there isn't much he can't do very well from anywhere along that DL. He's still young. Been around a while, but was practically a baby when he was drafted.
