Who will be our #1 WR

Post by BF004 »

This gets asked all the time, usually for fantasy purposes, but wanted to gauge the forum here.

I feel like no matter how I rank them, I end up with Jayden Reed last, but then blogger Andy just picked him as his choice for leading the team in catches and yards.

But 1 vote, who you got?

Watson for yards, Reed for catches, Watson for TDs.

Jayden has only played from the slot so far, which means his snaps are limited to 11 personnel. MLF has been running 12 or 21 personnel at about
38 % which means only 2 WRs on the field. So Reed has some handcuffs on the snap count side. And that's how it played out last season, with Reed getting 645 out of 1200 offensive snaps. For snap counts only: Doubs-Watson-Reed-Wicks

Also, MLF said he's projectile vomiting at you for starting such a thread

I don't think the world is prepared for a healthy Christian Watson.

I think all 5 WR's will show some great things, but Watson will be thought of as dominant by the end of the year.

I am going with Wicks for all 3 categories. What I cannot determine is at whose expense Wicks breakout will impact. I think all 3 guys contribute something unique and expect their production to be nearly identical.

I think Watson is the only one who fulfills his role. Doubs and Wicks are pretty redundant. I think Wicks can also take the slot from Reed. Reed will not be in on sets with more than one TE very often. Watson is the only one you probably any out there every single play.

On that note can you imagine just playing 2 TEs to one side and 2 WRs to the other with Watson on the boundary and Reed in the slot. I would think that if a team plays man theyre either in nickel and super light or in base and you have a huge mismatch with Musgrave against a LB or S. If theyre in zone you can kill them by running strong side or getting the ball quickly to Reed in space on the other side. Thats how the Patriots killed with Gronk and Hernandez.

Lol, don't really care about who is #1 per se, just curious as to who people here think will be most productive.

I'd be surprised if our leading receiver was the same 3 weeks in a row.

I have honestly been on the WICKS bandwagon (if there is one) for awhile. Why change now. I am putting my money where my mouth is on some prop betting this weekend.

I want Watson to end up #1. It's no secret that I've always loved BBW's. Big Bodied Wide Receivers. I haven't seen any images of him this offseason, but I'd be delighted if he packed some mass onto his frame. He was too skinny as a rookie. Christian Watson's got the Papa Bear in his corner......for now.

Watson still has to prove he can stay healthy, if he does then I expect he'll end up #1, however as others have said our most productive receiver could be a different player week to week, and just because Reed has only been used in the slot, he has boundary receiver skills, and is a excellent route runner, I expect to see him lined up out wide, it's a waste not to move that guy around.

finally a receiver room worth debating about  :aok:

Basically these two posts combined, although I think Wicks will be right there with the three mentioned when it’s all done.

TBH, I wouldn’t be surprised to see none of them reach the 60 catch / 900 yd / 10 TD plateau when you add the TEs and Jacobs into the mix.

I think Doubs is the guy that Love looks to most on 3rd downs. That goes a long way to being WR1.
Come on down and try some of our delicious green chili! Best in the world!

I like them all. I think Reed will get the dirty work done ala Robert Brooks. So I took Reed.

The strengths of Doubs, Watson, and Reed differ…route running, size and strength, and speed in that order. IMHO. What a crazy combo to have. I picked Doubs cuz, as BF004 says, Love seems to look for RD on 3rd down situations. This is going to be one hell of a fun year to be a Packer fan.

Yards I fall between Watson and Wicks, go Watson
Catches I fall between Reed and Wicks, go Reed
TDs I go between Watson and Doubs, go Watson

Doubs will be 2nd or 3rd in all three, so not a forgotten man here

It's going to be like 4 guys between 750 and 1100 yards and injuries and availability will be one of the biggest determining factors on how it shakes out because any one of them is capable of being like an 80/1100/10 guy if featured

If Watson stays mostly healthy I think he's a 12+td 1000+ yard receiver. And if that is true and he isn't our number one then that's just fantastic!
