We had 3 of them today.musclestang wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 14:59I know everyone is going to be talking about defense and turnovers but I feel it’s a false sense of security in our defense. That punch out was great, but that last was just a cardinal mistake.
It’s like we give up yards and scores or it’s a turnover. I’d like to get some more 3 and outs myself to prove we’re a good defense

It’s nice, don’t get me wrong. But turnovers always seem to dry up at some point. But at some point this defense need to force a punt when it matters. I’d like to see them force more punts.Pugger wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:01We give up 13 points and multiple turnovers and that isn't good enough?musclestang wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 14:59I know everyone is going to be talking about defense and turnovers but I feel it’s a false sense of security in our defense. Haha exactly. Sometimes people outsmart themselves in their analysis. 13 points given up against the Cards is a fantastic defensive performance.Pugger wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:01We give up 13 points and multiple turnovers and that isn't good enough?musclestang wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 14:59I know everyone is going to be talking about defense and turnovers but I feel it’s a false sense of security in our defense. Their first 4 possessions ended in punts. By the time they got the ball on their 5th possession, they were down 24-0.musclestang wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:04It’s nice, don’t get me wrong. Our defense now has held the opponent to under 14 points in 4 of our 6 games.

Yes, and it could have been circumstances with us in control as well that they seemed to move the ball well later. It AZ seemed to commit a lot of unforced errors. Great for us, but when I’m waiting to see a shut down D, it’s always in the back of my mind.Pckfn23 wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:01We had 3 of them today.musclestang wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 14:59I know everyone is going to be talking about defense and turnovers but I feel it’s a false sense of security in our defense. We are 4-2 and last place in the NFC North
Yes, but good defenses create turnovers. How many times did we punch it out?musclestang wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:04It’s nice, don’t get me wrong. But turnovers always seem to dry up at some point. Maybe, but outside that great punch out, I’m not sure we get those turnovers against a less careless team seemingly destined to shoot themsleves in the foot over and over.Acrobat wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:05Haha exactly. We definitely have the ingredients. The defenses that hurt was a weird bad drive from Jaw but more importantly got beat when Walker was the MIKE as we had no answer for their TE.musclestang wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:07Yes, and it could have been circumstances with us in control as well that they seemed to move the ball well later. But when we put Cooper at the MIKE and got Williams on the field...great things happened. Our weak spots are your usuals. Stokes. Walker (at MIKE) and Nixon in the slot.
But you are starting to see spots when they put Nixon out wide, Jaw/Bullard in the slot, Williams at safety and Cooper at MIKE with Walker at WILL and this defense is just a different unit.
That is incredibly, incredibly exciting.
We also have to remember this is a new D scheme they are implementing. I believe they will only get better.go pak go wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:10We definitely have the ingredients. Cardinals ran 14 plays, had 1 first down, and gained 34 yards
(4 punts) which resulted in them being down 24-0. That's shut down D. Of course they would loosen up a bit at that point. We played more cover 2 and 3 at that point.

Time for a celebratory Miller Lite.
While I agree with you that it's hard to hang your hat on turnovers and expect them to save your bacon game after game, as versus having such a dominant D that the opponent can't move the ball at all at you, I think you undersell the D's performance in this game. And we haven't gotten some unbelievable streak of freak turnovers that are all the O's fault, most have been actually forced and been legit. Gotta give them credit for that.musclestang wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:07Yes, and it could have been circumstances with us in control as well that they seemed to move the ball well later. You just don't have THIS many turnovers without the players (and coaches) doing something right.
Historically the Packers defense is the best in the Coordinator's first year and seems to trail off. I don't really buy the new scheme as much outside of our front 7 getting used to a different pass rush scheme, etc.Pugger wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024 15:13We also have to remember this is a new D scheme they are implementing. I'm happy seeing Jordan Love seemingly back to his old self.
Uncharacteristically rooting hard for a Cowboys win next. Let's see what happens.

We've faced a slew of QBs who like to run, have responded real well.

No interception for X today. What a bum. Time to trade him to Dallas for Aubrey!
