Yeah, why has it changed? It is the same standard as using capitalization, apostrophes, and periods.

Another issue is my students constantly put the dollar sign after the number. I understand the reasoning is this is how we pronounce it, but 4$ just is not right.

The fact that thing stands about five stories tall, weighs about 125 tons, and was pinpoint landed on a tower with two chopsticks extended out to catch it is just amazing.
